Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: Lands on IR due to concussion
The Falcons placed Carter (concussion) on injured reserve Saturday, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
Carter was unable to practice all week due to a concussion he sustained in Week 6 against the Panthers. His placement on injured reserve suggests Carter still has a long way to go before clearing the league's five-step concussion protocol. The 2018 third-round pick will be forced to miss at least the next four games, and he is eligible to return in Week 11 against the Broncos on Nov. 17. DeAngelo Malone, Arnold Ebiketie and James Smith-Williams are all candidates to see increased snaps on defense while Carter is sidelined.

Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: Missing first game in Week 7
Head coach Raheem Morris told reporters Friday that Carter (concussion) won't play in Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks, Amna Subhan of the Falcons' official site reports.
Carter has not practiced this week and has yet to pass the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, so it's no surprise he's been ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest. Expect James Smith-Williams and Arnold Ebiketie to see additional reps with Atlanta's first-team defense in Carter's stead.

Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: Still listed as starter
Carter is listed as one of the starting outside linebackers on the Falcons' official depth chart, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
The Falcons made a huge splash late in training camp by trading for Matthew Judon and signing Justin Simmons. Both newcomers are listed as backups on the depth chart, but that's expected to change as they get more acclimated to Atlanta's system. Carter and Arnold Ebiketie are expected to compete for the other starting outside linebacker spot when Judon is up to full speed.

Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: Rotational role in 2023
Carter finished 2023 with 35 tackles (24 solo), 3.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one pass defense in 17 appearances.
Despite not missing a game, Carter played less than half as many defensive snaps in 2023 (406) than he did in 2022 (877). Despite a drop in overall tackle numbers, Carter still made an occasional impact as a pass rusher. The 2018 third-round pick has one year remaining on his current deal, and he figures to handle a similar role in 2024, though he could see an uptick in snaps if Bud Dupree signs elsewhere this offseason.

Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: Looks ready for Sunday
Carter (neck) was a full participant at practice Friday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
Carter was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday, but he was able to manage a full practice Friday to put himself on track to play in Week 17. He projects to start on the edge Sunday.

Falcons' Lorenzo Carter: Re-ups on two-year deal
Carter is re-signing with the Falcons on a two-year contract Tuesday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Carter logged a career-high 58 tackles while appearing in all 17 games with the Falcons last season, his debut year with the team. He also notched four sacks, an interception and two passes defended along with a pick-six and one fumble recovery. After he emerged as a key edge rusher for Atlanta's defense in 2022, it makes sense for the team to keep him in house.
