  • Nyheim Hines: Signs with New Orleans

The Saints signed Hines to the practice squad Thursday, John Sigler of SaintsWire reports. Hines has appeared in three games this season for the Chargers, where he totaled two rushing attempts for minus-2 yards. The veteran's biggest contributions came on special teams, as he racked up 195 return yards through his three appearances. Hines will likely be elevated for Sunday's game against the Jets and serve as the No. 3 running back behind Evan Hull and Audric Estime.

  • Nyheim Hines: Set to join New Orleans

The Saints are expected to sign Hines to the practice squad, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports Wednesday. Devin Neal (hamstring) has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets and Alvin Kamara (knee/ankle) has been sidelined for the Saints' last three games, leaving Evan Hull and Audric Estime as the only healthy running backs on New Orleans' active roster. Hines appeared in three regular-season games for the Chargers earlier in the season before being cut from the practice squad in late October, but the veteran running back is poised to get another chance with the Saints. Assuming he's signed to the Saints' practice squad, he could be elevated for Week 16 to provide New Orleans another option out of the backfield and a returner on special teams.

  • Chargers' Nyheim Hines: Reverts to practice squad

Hines reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log. Hines and Jaret Patterson were both elevated to the Chargers' active roster for Thursday's game against the Vikings due to the absences of Hassan Haskins (hamstring) and Omarion Hampton (ankle). Hines saw just seven snaps (four on offense, three on special teams) while logging two carries for minus-2 yards, and he was the Chargers' clear RB3 behind Kimani Vidal (54 offensive snaps) and Patterson (15 offensive snaps). Hines has been elevated from the practice squad by the Chargers three times this season, which is the maximum amount. He would have to be signed to the active roster in order to play for the Chargers for the rest of the season.

  • Chargers' Nyheim Hines: Returns to practice squad

Hines reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday. Hines was elevated to the active roster for a second straight game in Week 7, playing just one snap with the offense in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Colts. The running back instead made his biggest mark on special teams, where he returned four kickoffs for 98 yards. With Hassan Haskins (hamstring) listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report, Hines could be a candidate for elevation again in Week 8 with the Chargers facing the Vikings on Thursday.

  • Chargers' Nyheim Hines: Elevated for Week 7

The Chargers elevated Hines from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday. Hines will be elevated to the Chargers' active roster for a second straight week and will be available to play against the Colts, the team that drafted him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Hines primarily served on special teams during the Chargers' Week 6 win over the Dolphins, when he turned three kickoff returns into 97 yards. However, the veteran running back could be deployed out of the backfield to spell Kimani Vidal if Hassan Haskins (chest) is not cleared to play Sunday.

  • Chargers' Nyheim Hines: Elevated by Bolts for Week 6

The Chargers elevated Hines from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. Hines joined the Chargers' practice squad Tuesday, and his addition gives the team much-needed depth at running back after Omarion Hampton (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. Hines will likely be active against the Dolphins on Sunday, and if he plays, it will mark his first action since the 2022 season, when he appeared in 16 regular-season games between the Bills (nine) and the Colts (seven). Hines could serve in a return role on kickoffs and punts but might also see work out of the backfield behind Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal.

  • Nyheim Hines: Gets cut from practice squad

The Chargers cut Hines from their practice squad Tuesday. In a corresponding transaction, the Chargers signed linebacker Kana'i Mauga to their practice squad. Hines' last regular-season action came in 2022, when he turned 54 touches into 274 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns over 16 games with the Bills and the Colts.

  • Nyheim Hines: Goes to Bolts' practice squad

The Chargers signed Hines to their practice squad Wednesday. Just a day after being waived by the Chargers, Hines is already back with the club on their practice squad. His last regular-season action came back in 2022, when he turned 54 touches into 274 scrimmage yards over 16 games with the Bills and the Colts.

  • Nyheim Hines: Let go by Los Angeles

Hines was released by the Chargers on Tuesday. Hines joined the Chargers in July after missing two seasons while recovering from a torn ACL. The running back played in all four of the team's preseason contests, turning 21 carries into 65 rushing yards, while also adding three catches for 13 yards. Additionally, Hines returned seven punts for 33 yards and nine kickoffs for 231 yards during the preseason. Considering his dynamic skill set, the running back will likely find another suitor ahead of the 2025 campaign.

  • Chargers' Nyheim Hines: Joins Bolts

Hines signed with the Chargers on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The running back was looking for an opportunity after missing the last two seasons with a torn ACL suffered in a jet-ski accident, and now he'll get one in an LA backfield led by Najee Harris (eye) and Omarion Hampton. The depth chart is pretty open behind those two, and Hines has the added benefit of offering potential as a kick returner, seeing as he recorded 554 kickoff-return yards and two touchdowns during the 2022 regular season. Hines has also caught at least 30 passes in all five of his pro campaigns.

  • Nyheim Miller-Hines: Time in Cleveland ends

Miller-Hines (knee) was released by the Browns on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston Reports. Miller-Hines was expected to return from an ACL tear at some point during the 2024 campaign, but that never came to fruition. The former Colt and Bill hasn't seen action in an NFL game since 2022, and he'll need to prove he's healthy to get a look from another team.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Won't play in 2024

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Hines (knee) won't be activated from the reserve/non-football injury list and will remain sidelined for the rest of the 2024 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Hines resumed practicing Oct 2, but with his 21-day evaluation window officially coming to an end Wednesday, the Browns didn't have a spot available for him on the 53-man roster. The running back had been working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in July 2023, and though Hines experienced no reported setbacks since he resumed practicing, the Browns already had four other backs on the roster and weren't willing to clear room for him. Though Hines will remain on the NFI list for now, he would be able to play for another team this season if he and the Browns are able to reach an injury settlement.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Won't play vs. Ravens

Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Hines (knee) is out for Week 8 versus Baltimore, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Hines participated fully in practice ahead of Week 7 but ultimately didn't suit up for that contest either, so it's possible injury alone can't fully explain why he isn't active yet. After the long-awaited return of starter Nick Chubb, the Browns now already have four running backs on their active roster, so even if Hines works his way back into the mix soon, he won't be on the fantasy radar for most formats.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Sidelined another week

Hines (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Eagles, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Hines was designated to return from Cleveland's non-football injury list on Oct. 2 and has been practicing in a limited fashion since. However, it appears the veteran running back is still not ready for in-game action just yet. Expect D'Onta Foreman (ankle) and Pierre Strong (hamstring) to serve as the Browns' top backup running backs behind Jerome Ford in Week 6.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Limited Thursday

Hines (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. Hines, who was designated to return from the non-football injury list earlier this week, was limited for a second consecutive day. It's unlikely he'll be ready to go for Sunday's road game against the Commanders.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Puts in limited practice

Hines (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. The Browns received a jolt Wednesday with both Hines and Nick Chubb (knee) back on the practice field. It's unclear if either running back will be ready to help the league's 26th-ranked rushing offense (94.8 yards per game) in time for Sunday's game against Washington, but the presence of Hines and Chubb at practice can be taken as a positive sign. In addition to Hines and Chubb, Pierre Strong (hamstring) was back on the field Wednesday.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Getting close to return

Hines (knee) is expected to be designated to return from the non-football injury list this week, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. Hines has been out of action since the summer of 2023 when he suffered an ACL tear after being hit by a jet ski. However, upon his imminent designation for return, he'll be able to return to the practice field. Considering the time the NC State product has missed, it's highly unlikely he would play as soon as Sunday against the Commanders, but he'll be able to continue getting back up to speed with the team for up to 21 days before a decision on whether to activate him to the 53-man roster has to be made.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Out until at least Week 5

Hines (knee) will open the regular season on the non-football injury list and miss a minimum of four games, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Hines suffered an ACL tear last July when he was struck by a jet ski, costing him all of the 2023 season and now part of 2024. It's unclear if he'll have a significant role once he's deemed healthy enough to play, but there's at least some chance he eventually becomes a pass-catching option and return man for the Browns this year. Hines hasn't practiced this summer and won't be eligible to play any sooner than Oct. 6 against Washington.

  • Browns' Nyheim Hines: Placed on NFI list

The Browns placed Hines (knee) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday. Hines said earlier this offseason that he anticipated being ready for training camp, so it's possible he won't spend much time on the NFI list before passing his physical. The pass-catching specialist is working his way back from a left ACL tear suffered last August, and once healthy, he'll compete for a role as a return man and third-down back. Nick Chubb (knee) started camp on the active/PUP list and remains without a timetable for return, so Hines could have a real opportunity alongside Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman in the Cleveland backfield, health permitting.

  • Bills' Nyheim Hines: Likely to be cut

The Bills plan to release Hines (knee) during the upcoming week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Though Hines is expected to attain full medical clearance ahead of training camp while he nears the finish line in his recovery from the ACL reconstruction surgery he required last August, he'll have to find work elsewhere while Buffalo looks to utilize his 90-man offseason roster spot on another player. After being acquired from the Colts in November 2022 in exchange for running back Zack Moss and a 2023 fifth-round draft pick, Hines appeared in just nine regular-season games for Buffalo, carrying six times for minus-3 yards to go with five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown while also contributing two scores as a kickoff returner. If teams are satisfied with where Hines stands in his ongoing recovery from knee surgery, he could have an opportunity to battle for a third-down role out of the backfield and/or a return job at his next stop.
