Montez spent the 2021 campaign with Detroit's practice squad before landing a reserve/future contract with the team at the end of the season. The 2020 undrafted free agent was then waived in May, and he has gone unsigned since. Montez now figures to serve as the Lions' de facto No. 3 quarterback behind Jared Goff and Nate Sudfeld, as Joshua Dobbs was signed off the team's practice squad by Tennessee on Wednesday.
