Adams was cut from the Saints' practice squad Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Adams joined the Saints' practice squad in November, then was released on Dec. 24, before being re-signed last Thursday. The move to cut Adams may be a sign that Mark Ingram (knee) will be ready to return in Week 18 against Atlanta.

  • Josh Adams: Joins New Orleans' practice squad

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Inactive in Week 1

Adams (coach's decision) is inactive for Week 1 against the Panthers. Adams was signed to the active roster from the practice squad in order to provide depth, but he didn't make the cut for the season opener. His next chance to suit up will come next Sunday in a home matchup against the Patriots.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Promoted from practice squad

Adams was signed to the Jets' 53-man roster Monday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports. Adams joined the practice squad after being cut by New York at last week's roster deadline, but he'll quickly make his way to the active roster. The 24-year-old will provide added backfield depth while Michael Carter (undiisclosed) and La'Mical Perine (foot) deal with minor injuries.

  • Josh Adams: Stashed on Jets practice squad

Adams was added to the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Andy Vasquez of USA Today Sports reports. This was the expected outcome for Adams after he was cut, as New York still sees potential in the Notre Dame product but prefers the four running backs it kept on the roster. The team won't hesitate to promote Adams to the roster should injuries strike during the regular season.

  • Josh Adams: Cut by Jets

Adams was waived by the Jets on Tuesday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports. Adams had a strong finish to the preseason with 12 carries for 62 yards and three catches for 17 yards Friday against the Eagles, but it wasn't enough to secure a spot on the initial 53-man roster. New York hopes to keep the 24-year-old around on the practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Solid showing caps off preseason

Adams rushed 12 times for 62 yards and caught three of four targets in Friday's preseason finale against the Eagles. He also ran in a two-point conversion. Adams' performance may not be enough to move him up from fifth on the Jets' backfield depth chart, but the team will likely try to keep him around on the practice squad considering the 24-year-old running back averaged 5.4 yards per carry on his 29 attempts last season. His two-point conversion tied the game at 31-31 with no time on the clock after James Morgan found Kenny Yeboah for a 49-yard touchdown on the game's final play.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Back with Jets

Adams re-signed on a one-year deal with the Jets on Monday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports. The Jets did not tender Adams in restricted free agency, though he still lands back for a third season with the team. His role in the offense was limited in 2020, as he managed only 75 offensive snaps and 29 rushing attempts. Currently, there's no clear starting option on the team's roster as Ty Johnson and La'Mical Perine project to serve as the lead backs.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Finds end zone in finale

Adams rushed 11 times for 47 yards and a touchdown while catching two of four targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Patriots to close out the season. Adams scored from one yard out in the third quarter to bookend his season with touchdowns, as his only other visit to the end zone came all the way back in Week 1. He and Ty Johnson each got 11 carries with Frank Gore (chest) and La'Mical Perine (illness) out. Adams was fourth on New York's running back depth chart with everybody healthy, and he'll be fighting an uphill battle for a roster spot next season.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Leading rusher out of three RBs

Adams rushed six times for 27 yards and caught both of his targets for three yards in Sunday's 40-3 loss to the Seahawks. Adams led the Jets in rushing yards, narrowly edging Frank Gore (eight carries for 23 yards) and Ty Johnson (eight carries for 16 yards). Most of Adams' production came in garbage time, however, and working as part of a three-man running back rotation in the league's lowest-scoring offense isn't a recipe for success heading into a Week 15 matchup with the Rams.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Tops 70 yards

Adams rushed eight times for 74 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Raiders. The Jets leaned primarily on Ty Johnson (22 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown) after Frank Gore suffered a concussion early on, but Adams made the most of his change-of-pace role against the vulnerable Raiders run defense. Adams should see a similar role behind Johnson against the Seahawks in Week 14 if Gore's not ready to return.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: One touch in Week 12

Adams rushed once for one yard in Sunday's 20-3 loss to Miami. The rumblings about a running back rotation following La'Mical Perine's ankle injury didn't hold much water on game day, as Frank Gore got 21 touches to three for Ty Johnson and one for Adams. Adams' barely existent role on New York's league-worst offense doesn't inspire much confidence ahead of a Week 13 clash with the Raiders.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Signs with Gang Green

The Jets signed Adams to the active roster Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. La'Mical Perine suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's loss to the Chargers and is expected to miss at least a couple of games. Adams was promoted as a result, and he'll add depth in the backfield behind Frank Gore and Ty Johnson. Through five games with the Jets over the past two seasons, Adams recorded 20 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and caught two passes for 14 yards.

  • Josh Adams: Drops back to practice roster

Adams reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Adams played just five offensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the 49ers and didn't record a touch. He stands a good chance to be brought back up for Week 3 against the Colts since Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) will miss the next two games.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Stuffed on fourth down

Adams rushed once for no gain in Sunday's 31-13 loss to San Francisco. Adams' usage was peculiar, as his only touch came on arguably the game's most important play; he was stuffed on a 4th-and-1 play from San Francisco's 20-yard-line with the Jets down 14-3 late in the first half. After New York turned it over on downs, the 49ers proceeded to drive the ball down the field for a touchdown to take a 21-3 lead into the locker room. Frank Gore (21 carries for 63 yards) is New York's clear lead back with Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) on the shelf, and rookie La'Mical Perine is also ahead of Adams in the running back pecking order.

  • Jets' Josh Adams: Back on active roster

Adams was promoted from the practice squad Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Similar to last week, Adams will once again find his way onto the active roster as a depth option, only this time behind starter Frank Gore with Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) now on IR. Adams did manage to score late in Week 1 so anything is possible, but it's more likely a combination of Gore, La'Mical Perine (ankle) and Kalen Ballage take most of the workload for New York.
