  • Patriots' A.J. Brown: Building connection with Maye

After the connection between Brown and QB Drake Maye got off to a slow start in training camp, Paul Perillo of the Patriots' official site notes that "there have been some serious signs of life since the pads came on Thursday morning."

With that in mind, Maye said Friday,"I feel the connectivity building now," adding "that's the biggest thing. You are just seeing it get better every day." As the two players' chemistry continues to grow while Brown acclimates to his new team's offense, the wideout is firmly on track to yield fantasy utility as New England's top option at his position alongside fellow newcomer Romeo Doubs, with Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism battling for targets that don't go to the aforementioned duo.

  • Patriots' A.J. Brown: Clicks with Maye on Thursday

During Thursday's padded practice, Brown and QB Drake Maye routinely connected throughout the session, Mark Daniels of MassLive.com reports.

Per Daniels, through the first four days of training camp, Maye went 4-for-9 with an interception when targeting Brown. On Thursday, the duo connected four times on five targets, including a TD on the quarterback's final throw of the practice. In any case, as Brown gains reps with his new offense, his chemistry with Maye should continue to solidify, and as the coming season approaches, steady volume should be the norm for him while operating as the clear-cut top option in a WR corps that also includes Romeo Doubs, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism.

  • Patriots' A.J. Brown: Seeking chemistry with Maye

The chemistry between Brown and Drake Maye has been noticeably off through the first three days of training camp, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.

Maye has completed just one of seven passes with an interception when targeting Brown in team drills through the first three days of practice. The lone completion was a wide-open quick out, and the duo is "far off" on deeper routes. It's not time to panic, of course, with 43 days before the start of the regular season to iron out any issues. Brown is currently being drafted as a top-20 pick in best-ball formats.

  • Patriots' A.J. Brown: May help create favorable matchups

Safety Kevin Byard suggested Tuesday on SiriusXM's The Players Point that the presence of a top-tier No. 1 wide receiver like Brown will shift the philosophy of how opponents want to play defense against the Patriots, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

Byard previously played with Brown in Tennessee and Philadelphia before the wideout got traded to New England this offseason, and he compared the effect on defenses to how he and the Bears previously prepared to face Justin Jefferson twice a year. "When I was in Chicago... for the most part, you need(ed) to point out where Jefferson was on every single play," Byard said, while adding that it will be "the same thing" for opposing defenders this season "with A.J." in terms of assessing where he lines up on any given play. Per Evan Lazar of the team's official site, Brown has gotten most of his practice reps so far at outside receiver, but it's possible that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will look to move Brown around the formation in order to create favorable matchups, providing quarterback Drake Maye with more opportunities to get the ball to his top read.
