Packers' Malik Willis: Plays well in relief
Willis completed 30 of 35 passes (85.7 percent) for 422 yards and three touchdowns while logging 22 carries for 123 yards and two scores across four regular-season games (one start) for the Packers in 2025.
Willis was thrust into a starting role in Week 17 against the Ravens after Jordan Love suffered a concussion during the Packers' Week 16 overtime loss to the Bears. Willis ended up aggravating a right shoulder injury during the fourth quarter against Baltimore and was replaced by Clayton Tune, and that game ended up being the former's last appearance of the 2025 season. Willis was cast away by the Titans in August of 2024 in favor of Will Levis, but the former has played well in his two years as the Packers' backup behind Love. Willis enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, and while his familiarity with the Packers' offense could sway him to stay in Green Bay, the 2022 third-rounder will have the opportunity to explore his options and sign with a team who can provide a clearer path to winning the starting quarterback job.

Packers' Malik Willis: Active, backing up Love on Saturday
Willis (right shoulder/hamstring) is active for Saturday's wild-card game at Chicago, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.
Willis initially injured his right throwing shoulder in the late stages of a Week 16 loss in Chicago and then aggravated it in a Week 17 start against the Ravens in place of Jordan Love (concussion). Since then, Willis was inactive in Week 18 at Minnesota while Clayton Tune started and Love handled backup duties, and with coach Matt LaFleur announcing earlier this week that Love would start in the wild-card round, Willis' best bet was to return to the No. 2 gig. Now that he's confirmed to be active, Willis will take on that role while Desmond Ridder serves as the emergency third quarterback.

Packers' Malik Willis: Questionable for wild-card game
Green Bay lists Willis (shoulder/hamstring) as questionable for Saturday's wild-card game in Chicago, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.
Though Willis was inactive for the Packers' Week 18 loss to the Vikings due to the injuries to his hamstring and throwing shoulder, head coach Matt LaFleur expressed confidence earlier in the week that the fourth-year quarterback would be ready to back up starter Jordan Love in the postseason opener. However, with Willis not advancing beyond limited practice participation throughout the week, his status for Saturday's contest would appear to be more uncertain than initially expected. In the event Willis isn't available to play against the Bears, the Packers would turn to the newly-signed Desmond Ridder to serve as Love's backup.

Willis (right shoulder/hamstring) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday.
Willis attempted to play through an injury to his right throwing shoulder Week 17 against the Ravens but aggravated it late in that contest. He then was inactive this past Sunday in Minnesota, yielding the start to Clayton Tune, who has since been waived. Coach Matt LaFleur told Matt Schneidman of The Athletic on Tuesday that Jordan Love will start Saturday's wild-card contest in Chicago after missing the last two-and-half games due to a concussion that he suffered in his last visit to Soldier Field in Week 16. At the same time, LaFleur said he anticipates Willis serving as Love's backup this weekend, per Ryan Wood of USA Today. In the end, Willis may need to practice fully Thursday in order to avoid a designation ahead of Saturday's matchup.

Willis (right shoulder/hamstring) was a limited participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice.
Willis was inactive for the Packers' Week 18 loss to the Vikings while he managed his pair of injuries, but head coach Matt LaFleur said prior to Tuesday's practice that he expects the fourth-year quarterback to be available for Saturday's wild-card game against the Bears, per Ryan Wood of USA Today. However, after starting in the Packers' Week 17 loss to the Ravens, Willis will return to a backup role after LaFleur confirmed that Jordan Love would return to the starting role as Green Bay opens its postseason. As such, Willis will have two more chances to upgrade his activity level at practice and avoid taking a designation into Saturday. Coach Matt LaFleur announced Thursday that Clayton Tune will be Green Bay's starting QB in Week 18 at the same time that he relayed that Jordan Love cleared the concussion protocol. The decision makes sense considering the Packers are locked into the No. 7 seed in the NFC side of the playoffs, but who will be Tune's backup remains to be seen. Willis himself was listed as limited on all three of the team's practice reports this week due to right shoulder and hamstring injuries, and his fate for Sunday's game could become more clear if Desmond Ridder is elevated from the practice squad Saturday. In that scenario, Willis may be the emergency third quarterback, at best, behind Tune and Ridder with Love not expected to play, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com.

During the open portion of Wednesday's session, Willis didn't throw, unlike No. 1 QB Jordan Love (left shoulder/concussion) and practice-squad members Clayton Tune and Desmond Ridder, per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. Love ended up logging his first full practice since he suffered a head injury Week 16 in Chicago, and while he remains in the concussion protocol, per coach Matt LaFleur, he told Matt Schneidman of The Athletic at the same time that some starters won't play Sunday at Minnesota.
