  • Deon Jackson: Doesn't get roster spot

Jackson was waived by the Jets on Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.

Jackson opened last season as the Colts' Week 1 starting running back while Jonathan Taylor was on the PUP list. However, he struggled with only 14 yards on 13 carries in the opener and was cut less than two weeks later. Jackson subsequently found work with the Browns and Giants, then signed a contract with the Jets this August. However, he won't be on the team's 53-man roster after gaining just 18 yards on eight carries during the preseason.

  • Jets' Deon Jackson: Inks deal

Jackson signed a contract with the Jets on Wednesday.

Jackson bounced between the Colts, Browns and Giants last season, seeing action in four regular-season games. The Duke product managed to net only 16 yards on 14 carries, but he did have a little better success in 2022, when he averaged 3.5 YPC on 68 attempts. The 25-year-old will compete with rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, as well as with second-year pro Israel Abanikanda, for a spot behind Breece Hall at running back.

  • Deon Jackson: Gets workout with Texans

Houston worked out Jackson (undisclosed) on Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Jackson was waived by the Giants with an injury settlement back in May, so he's now looking for another opportunity to make an impression. Given that the Texans signed Joe Mixon this offseason, still have Dameon Pierce under contract and just spent a draft pick on Jawhar Jordan, the path to a roster spot in Houston would be narrow for Jackson even if he did get signed.

  • Giants' Deon Jackson: Done with Giants

The Giants waived Jackson (undisclosed) with an injury designation Friday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.

Jackson suited up for both Cleveland and Indianapolis in 2023, but he demonstrated a tendency to fumble the ball away and thus spent most of last season on the bench. If he clears waivers, he'll reverted to injured reserve.

The Giants signed Jackson to their practice squad Wednesday, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.

Just a couple days after cutting him, the Giants have now decided to bring Jackson back on board. As long as Saquon Barkley and Matt Breida remain healthy, Jackson's path to playing time is still virtually nonexistent.

  • Giants' Deon Jackson: Won't face Dallas

Jackson (concussion) is ruled out for Sunday's road matchup against the Cowboys, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Jackson won't be eligible to retake the field until he's fully cleared the NFL's five-step concussion protocol. The depth running back should have a good chance to return to health in time to suit up on the road versus Washington in Week 11.

  • Giants' Deon Jackson: Dealing with concussion

Jackson is in concussion protocol Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Jackson played just 10 total snaps in Sunday's loss at Las Vegas, but it seems he might have picked up a concussion somewhere along the way. Most players who have entered the league's concussion protocol in 2023 have missed at least one game, so it's not a great sign as it relates to the possibility he'll play again in Week 10.
