  • Saints' Chris Olave: Shifts to injured reserve

Olave (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. After suffering his second concussion in a month, and third concussion in a calendar year, this was expected. The star target will be out at least until mid-December, at which point it's possible the team will decide whether it's worth bringing back Olave altogether given New Orleans likely won't be in the playoff hunt. Expect more information regarding his playing status to come later in November.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Expected to land on IR

Olave (concussion) is expected to be placed on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Olave has already been ruled for Sunday's game against the Falcons, with Rapoport indicating that the anticipated move is expected to occur Saturday. In that scenario, Olave, who sustained his second concussion of the season during Week 9 action against the Panthers, would be in line to miss at least the Saints' next four games. With Cedrick Wilson (shoulder) also out this week, Mason Tipton, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jermaine Jackson are the available wide receivers currently on New Orleans' active roster.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Ruled out for Week 10

Interim coach Darren Rizzi said Friday that Olave (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Falcons, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Rizzi also told Hendrix that a stint on injured reserve is "on the table" for Olave as the wide receiver meets with specialists to determine the best course of action after he suffered a concussion this past Sunday at Carolina that resulted in a visit to the hospital. The Saints have a Week 12 bye on the schedule, so it likely would behoove them to make an IR decision this week with the four-game caveat in mind. With Cedrick Wilson (shoulder) also ruled out for Week 10, Mason Tipton, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jermaine Jackson are the healthy wide receivers on the Saints' active roster.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Meeting with specialists

Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said Wednesday that Olave (concussion) is meeting with specialists, and no decision has been made regarding whether the receiver will be placed on injured reserve, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Rizzi subtly acknowledged the possibility of an extended absence for Olave, who suffered his second concussion of the season and fourth of his NFL career during Sunday's 23-22 loss to the Panthers. The wideout also suffered a concussion in 2020 during his time at Ohio State. Olave didn't practice Wednesday and appears highly unlikely to play this Sunday against the Falcons.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: No practice Wednesday

Olave (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. Olave was on the receiving end of a big hit this past Sunday at Carolina and was carted off the field before heading to a Charlotte-area hospital for further evaluation. He was diagnosed with a concussion, leaving him subject to the NFL's five-step protocol for head injuries. In the short term, Olave's ability to merely get back on the practice field will be a positive first step in his recovery.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Out of hospital

Olave has been discharged from a Charlotte, N.C. hospital and will return to New Orleans with his teammates following Sunday's game against the Panthers. Olave needed a cart to get off the field following a big hit in the middle of the first quarter. Diagnosed with a concussion not long after, he'll be subject to the protocol for head injuries in order to suit up again. The Saints play next Sunday versus the Falcons.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Carted off field Sunday

Olave (undisclosed) was carted off the field during Sunday's game at Carolina, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. In the middle of the first quarter, Olave was on the receiving end of a pass from QB Derek Carr and was sandwiched between two Panthers defenders. Olave then remained motionless on the turf and was tended to by the Saints' medical and training staffs before being carted off the field.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Logs 107 yards in return

Olave had eight receptions (on 14 targets) for 107 yards during Sunday's 26-8 defeat to the Chargers. Olave eclipsed 100 receiving yards for the first time this season. He also logged a season high in targets and matched his season high for receptions. This all took place in a game during which Olave temporarily exited for a concussion check and rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler was benched for second-year signal-caller Jake Haener midway through the third quarter. With No. 2 wideout Rashid Shaheed now out for the season with a meniscus injury, Olave could continue to see an increase in targets moving forward. He'll hope to have another productive outing with QB1 Derek Carr (oblique) expected to return for next week's game versus the Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 3.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Clears concussion protocol

Olave cleared concussion protocol and will be available for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Olave already looked on track to be available this weekend after turning in a full practice Thursday, but Terrell's report confirms that the wideout now has received clearance from an independent neurologist, the final stage of the five-step protocol. After sitting out last week's loss to the Broncos, Olave should be ready to reprise his usual duties as the Saints' No. 1 wideout, though he'll be on the receiving end of passes from rookie Spencer Rattler rather than Derek Carr (oblique), the latter of whom is expected to miss a third straight start. Olave suited up in Rattler's first NFL start back in Week 6, but the former played just two snaps before exiting with the concussion.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Full practice Thursday

Olave (concussion) practiced in full Thursday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Olave sustained a concussion Sunday, Oct. 13 against the Buccaneers and sat out last Thursday's loss versus the Broncos, but he's made quick work this week by following up Wednesday's limited session with all activity one day later. It's unclear if he's made his way through the protocol for head injuries, but he'll need to gain clearance from an independent neurologist in order to return to action Sunday at the Chargers.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Back at practice Wednesday

Olave (concussion) was present at practice Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Assuming Olave took part in some drills, it would mark his first visible on-field work since sustaining a concussion Oct. 13 against the Buccaneers. The Saints have lost fellow wideout Rashid Shaheed for the season due to meniscus surgery, and quarterback Derek Carr continues to be sidelined with an oblique issue, so getting Olave back will be key for the team's passing game. The Saints will release their first Week 8 injury report later Wednesday, when it will be known how much work Olave was able to handle.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Remains in concussion protocol

Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Monday that Olave remains in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Olave was unable to suit up last Thursday versus Denver, and he'll still need to gain full clearance -- including from an independent neurologist -- in order to be eligible to play Sunday versus the Chargers. With Rashid Shaheed having undergone season-ending knee surgery and the availability of quarterback Derek Carr (oblique) still uncertain for Week 8, it would provide a key boost for New Orleans' offense if Olave managed to gain clearance in time to play in Los Angeles. Mason Tipton, Cedrick Wilson and Bub Means otherwise will be in line to lead the Saints' wide receiver room.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Won't play Thursday

Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that Olave (concussion) won't play in Thursday's game against the Broncos, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. In the wake of suffering a concussion this past Sunday versus the Buccaneers, Olave wasn't able to practice this week, indicating he's made little-to-no progress through the protocol for head injuries. With Olave and Rashid Shaheed's (knee) sidelined for Week 7, the Saints will be particularly shorthanded at wide receiver Thursday. Mason Tipton, Cedrick Wilson (ankle) and Bub Means are the options on the active roster, while Equanimeous St. Brown, Kevin Austin, Dante Pettis and Jermaine Jackson are candidates to be elevated from the practice squad.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Not practicing Tuesday

Olave (concussion) isn't participating in Tuesday's practice, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Olave remains in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol after exiting Sunday's 51-27 loss to the Buccaneers. According to Rod Walker of The New Orleans Times-Picayune, Olave has sustained four documented concussions during his football career dating back to his time in college, and one in each of his first three seasons with the Saints. Given his history, Olave looks unlikely to be available for Thursday's game against the Broncos, and his availability for Week 8 against the Chargers wouldn't seem to be guaranteed, either.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Non-participant on estimated report

Olave (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated practice report. Olave made an early exit from Sunday's 51-27 loss to the Buccaneers and eventually was diagnosed with a concussion, so his projected lack of activity one day later isn't a shock. With a Thursday night matchup with the Broncos on tap, he's unlikely to gain clearance from the concussion protocol in time for that contest. Fellow wideout Rashid Shaheed (knee) also was a non-participant on Monday's report, along with quarterback Derek Carr (oblique), meaning the Saints' passing game could be severely undermanned Thursday.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Suffers concussion Sunday

Olave won't return to Sunday's game versus the Buccaneers due to a concussion. Olave hauled in a pass from QB Spencer Rattler in the first quarter, after which he took a hit to his upper body. The ball was knocked out of Olave's hands as he was pulled to the turf, and Bucs safety Antoine Winfield picked it up and took it to the house for a defensive touchdown. After making his way to the sideline, Olave visited the medical tent and then went to the locker room for a concussion check, which eventually was confirmed. With a short week on tap for a matchup with Broncos on Thursday Night Football, he'll be hard-pressed to be available Week 7.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Bust Alert

I'm excited to see Spencer Rattler start for the Saints in Week 6 with Derek Carr (oblique) out, but I'm also concerned for the production we'll get from Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Both are still worth starting in three-receiver leagues, but both could also struggle with a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start. Olave has also struggled so far this season with Carr, and he only has three games with at least 12.8 PPR points and one touchdown. We'll see how he does against the Buccaneers, who are No. 6 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing receivers, but it could be tough for Olave with Carr out.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Suiting up Sunday

Olave (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game at Atlanta. Olave suffered a hamstring injury at Friday's practice, going down as a limited participant and earning a questionable tag for Week 4. While insiders like Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported this weekend that the wide receiver was expected to suit up Sunday, Olave's status ultimately came down to a pregame warmup, when he was seen donning a sleeve on his right leg, per Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com. Now that Olave is confirmed to be available, he'll look to keep his recent momentum going after combining for a 10-167-1 line on 12 targets the last two contests.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Optimism regarding status Sunday

Olave (hamstring) is slated to test things out in warmups, but Adam Schefter of ESPN relays that the Saints are "confident" the wideout will be able to face the Falcons on Sunday. Olave -- who is officially listed as questionable -- was added to the Saints' Week 4 injury report after suffering a hamstring injury during Friday's practice. However, it appears as though he's trending toward being available for Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, barring any pre-game setbacks.

  • Saints' Chris Olave: Expected to play

Olave (hamstring), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus Atlanta, is expected to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Olave was previously reported to be a game-time decision as he works his way through a hamstring injury he suffered at practice Friday. He now appears set to play, but his status will likely be made official following the team's warmups prior to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff against the Falcons.
