Cade York: Loses out in kicker battle
The Jets will waive York on Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
He came up short in the battle for the Jets' kicking job, with Jason Sanders emerging as the victor. Since converting 24 of 32 field-goal attempts while appearing in all 17 games as a rookie with the Browns in 2022, York has bounced around the league over the last four years, spending time in the Giants, Commanders, Bengals and Jets organizations.

Jets' Cade York: Misses in first half
York missed his sole field-goal attempt, but converted a PAT in Friday night's preseason game against the Steelers.
York missed from 59 yards in the second quarter, ending his night. Jason Sanders took over in the second half, making a 39-yard field goal and finishing the game with a PAT in the fourth quarter. York was called upon for the harder kick, but the failure likely still dings the kicker compared to Sanders' perfect night.

Jets' Cade York: Recovered from groin injury
York (groin) went 6-for-6 on field-goal attempts at Thursday's practice, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
York had been sidelined by a groin injury but has recovered and connected on kicks of 34, 36, 39, 42, 45 and 48 yards Thursday. The Jets' kicker competition between York and Jason Sanders is a long way from being settled, but Thursday's practice marked a point in York's corner, as Sanders missed his 48-yard attempt.

York (groin) has not been able to participate in OTAs this week, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
It's unclear if the issue is serious and will require York to miss time beyond this week, though it likely contributed to New York's recent signing of Younghoe Koo, according to Cimini. York signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March after not seeing any regular-season action in 2025.

Jets' Cade York: Set to join Jets
The Jets have agreed to a one-year deal with York, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
York, who the Browns took in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, didn't see any regular-season action in 2025, but over the course of his pro career, the LSU product had made 33 of his 45 field-goal attempts. With the Jets, York will have an opportunity to fill the void created by the free-agent departure of Nick Folk. Also currently in the team's kicking mix is Lenny Krieg.

York's presence as a reserve kicker is no longer necessary, with Charlie Smyth on track to be elevated from the practice squad Week 16. The Saints waived Blake Grupe on Tuesday and then added York to the practice squad, where Smyth already resides. Both York and Smyth are known for leg strength more so than accuracy, with York having made just 33 of 45 field-goal attempts (73.3 percent) in his NFL career.

After Blake Grupe missed his seventh and eighth field-goal attempts of the season in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Falcons, the Saints elected to bring in York and Justin Tucker for kicker tryouts Monday. York made enough of an impression during his workout to earn a spot on the practice squad, and he'll likely be elevated or signed to the 53-man roster in short order to make his Saints debut Sunday in Miami after New Orleans cut Grupe on Tuesday. Over 18 career games in parts of two seasons with stops in Cleveland, Washington and Cincinnati, York has gone 33-for-45 (73.3 percent) on field-goal tries and owns a career long of 59 yards.

Bengals' Cade York: Makes all five kicks vs. Pittsburgh
York made all four of his field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point try during the Bengals' 19-17 win over the Steelers on Saturday.
York missed three kicks over his last three games heading into the Bengals' regular-season finale, but the third-year kicker was flawless in a must-win game. The team's offense went 1-for-4 on red zone drives, which put York in a position to convert on easier kicks, with three of his four field-goal attempts coming from within 40 yards. He served as Cincinnati's placekicker for the final five games of the regular season due to Evan McPherson (groin) going on IR. Over that span, York went 9-for-11 on field-goal attempts and 14-for-15 on extra-point tries. It's unclear whether York or McPherson would handle kicking duties in the wild-card round if the Bengals make the playoffs with a Broncos' loss and a Dolphins' loss or tie.

Bengals' Cade York: Misses overtime field goal
York went 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts and converted all three of his extra-point attempts during the Bengals' 30-24 overtime win over the Broncos on Saturday.
York converted on a 22-yard chip shot to close out the Bengals' first offensive drive of the second half. He had a chance to win the game for Cincinnati in overtime, but his 33-yard field-goal attempt clanged the left upright. He has missed a field goal in two straight weeks, and in the four games since taking over for Evan McPherson (groin) as the Bengals' kicker, York has gone 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts and 13-for-14 on extra-point tries. McPherson is eligible to be activated off injured reserve for Cincinnati's regular-season finale against Pittsburgh.
