49ers' Tatum Bethune: Moved to IR
The 49ers placed Bethune (groin) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Bethune suffered a groin injury late into the 49ers' Week 18 loss to the Seahawks. The injury has proven to be season-ending, and the team will now grow even thinner at linebacker as they enter the playoffs. The recent signing of Eric Kendricks to the active roster will hopefully be enough to sustain the team until it can potentially regain the help of All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner (ankle).

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Done for season
Sam Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Bethune (groin) won't be available for the 49ers' entire postseason run, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports.
Bethune's status for San Francisco's wild-card round matchup was already up in the air after he exited in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 13-3 loss to the Seahawks. Upon further examination, the 24-year-old has been diagnosed with a groin tear that may require surgery. With Dee Winters (ankle) also uncertain to play in Sunday's wild-card game against the Eagles and with Shanahan ruling out Fred Warner (ankle) for the first two rounds of the playoffs, Eric Kendricks is expected to take on a full-time role at linebacker. Garret Wallow and Curtis Robinson -- who was inactive in Week 18 -- could also be called upon to handle more prominent roles.

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Wild-card status cloudy
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the 49ers' 13-3 loss to the Seahawks on Saturday that Bethune's groin injury could prevent him from playing in the wild-card round of the NFC playoffs, Noah Furtado and Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle report.
Bethune left in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game after sustaining a groin injury, finishing the contest with seven tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, and one pass defense. Dee Winters (ankle) also left the contest in the second quarter, and the potential loss of two starting linebackers is a huge blow to a San Francisco defense that is already without Fred Warner (ankle - IR) along with pass rushers Mykel Williams (knee - IR) and Nick Bosa (knee - IR). Eric Kendricks, Garret Wallow and Curtis Robinson (who was inactive for Week 18) would all be in line for more defensive snaps at linebacker if one or both of Bethune and Winters were to be sidelined for the wild-card round.

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Game-high 11 stops vs. Chicago
Bethune logged 11 tackles (seven solo), including one stop for a loss, and one pass defense during the 49ers' 42-38 win over the Bears on Sunday.
Bethune was one of five San Francisco defenders to play every single defensive snap and led both teams in tackles. It was the sixth time this season that he reached double-digit tackles in a game, and the 2024 seventh-rounder is up to 87 tackles (37 solo) and three pass defenses through 13 regular-season games. Bethune has a shot at reaching 100-plus tackles on the year in Saturday's regular-season finale against the Seahawks.

Bethune (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, per the NFL's injury report.
Bethune aggravated an ankle injury during the 49ers' Week 16 win over the Colts on Monday. However, his full practice Wednesday indicates that the injury isn't considered a long-term issue and puts him on track to be available for Sunday's game against the Bears.

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Exits game with ankle injury
Bethune (ankle) is questionable to return to Monday's game against the Colts.
Bethune missed the 49ers' last three games due to an ankle injury, but it's not clear whether he aggravated the injury or if it's new. While he's being evaluated by medical staff, veteran Eric Kendricks -- who was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Monday's game -- has entered the game to serve as the 49ers' middle linebacker.

Bethune (ankle) was a limited participant in Friday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Returns to limited practice
Bethune (ankle) will be limited at practice Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Bethune last suited up in Week 11, but his ability to practice in some capacity Thursday suggests he has made progress in his recovery. He would return to the starting middle-linebacker role if cleared to play Monday against the Colts. Bethune has two more opportunities to upgrade to full participation in practice.

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Slated to return to practice
Head coach Kyle Shanahan relayed Monday that he expects Bethune (ankle) to return to practice for Week 16 prep, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Bethune has missed the 49ers' last three game due to a right ankle sprain, but he appears to have progressed enough in his recovery to return to practice ahead of San Francisco's Week 16 tilt against Indianapolis on Monday, Dec. 22. The second-year linebacker was thrust into a starting role after Fred Warner (ankle - IR) suffered a season-ending injury in Week 6 against the Buccaneers, and it has been Curtis Robinson who has taken on the starting job in Bethune's absence.

49ers' Tatum Bethune: Remains unable to practice
Bethune (ankle) did not practice Thursday.
With consecutive DNPs to begin Week 15 prep, Bethune appears to be in real danger of missing his third straight game Sunday against the Titans. Should that be the case, Curtis Robinson would likely log another start at linebacker.
