Jets' Xavier Gipson: Regresses in second NFL season
Gipson finished the 2024 season with six catches for 39 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets. He also rushed once for five yards, in addition to returning 33 punts for 266 yards and 17 kickoffs for 489 yards.
Gipson was a non-factor on offense and saw declines in both punt-return and kickoff-return yards compared to his rookie year despite leading the league in punts returned in 2024. The 23-year-old out of Stephen F. Austin has a decent chance of making the team in 2025 thanks to his special-teams contributions, though Gipson will likely face competition in training camp.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: No touches on offense again
Gipson returned one kickoff for 25 yards and added two punt returns for 25 yards in Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills.
Gipson played nine snaps on offense but didn't touch the ball. He has gone four games without a target or carry, and the second-year pro's only multi-catch performance of the season came back in Week 3. Gipson's a fantasy non-factor heading into the season finale against the Dolphins, outside of formats that reward return yards.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Game-ending fumble in loss
Gipson returned three kickoffs for 99 yards and had one punt return for no gain in Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Rams. He didn't record a target or carry and lost a fumble.
Gipson contributed a 42-yard kickoff return to provide some special-teams value despite a lack of involvement on offense. That contribution was overshadowed by his muffed punt in the fourth quarter, which was a microcosm of the Jets' season. New York had just gotten a stop with 1:44 remaining but burned all three timeouts in the process. Instead of the offense having a chance to at least make it a one-possession game and hope for an onside kick, Gipson's fumble allowed the Rams to retain possession and kneel out the clock.

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Cedes slot job to Corley
Gipson caught his only target for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Seahawks. He also returned two kickoffs for 81 yards and added a punt return for no gain.
Gipson played just 19 snaps on offense compared to Malachi Corley's 41, suggesting that Corley has surpassed Gipson as the Jets' preferred option in the slot. Gipson was on the field for 27 of 51 snaps on offense while Malachi Corley played 12, so Gipson continues to be the preferred option in the slot. Jets' Xavier Gipson: Could emerge as No. 3 receiver
Gipson is expected to serve as the Jets' No. 3 receiver beginning with Sunday's game at Arizona after New York traded Mike Williams to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
While the departure of Williams will open up some snaps at receiver, Gipson likely won't serve as an every-down player like Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams. The Jets are expected to make heavy use of two tight ends sets featuring Tyler Conklin and Jeremy Ruckert that would leave Gipson on the sideline, and 2024 third-round pick Malachi Corley could also be in the mix on three-wide sets. Gipson will continue to offer his most utility in fantasy leagues that count return yardage, as he seems locked in as the Jets' top kickoff and punt returner.

Gipson remains almost exclusively limited to special teams duties. Finding snaps for the undersized receiver will be even harder moving forward, as the Jets are finalizing a trade for wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) ahead of Sunday's road game against the Steelers.

Gipson was one of eight Jets to catch multiple passes in Thursday's win, as Aaron Rodgers had his best game as a Jet with 281 passing yards and two touchdowns. While Gipson's shiftiness offers a path to playing time in the slot and as a gadget piece, most of his contributions have come on special teams, with Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams and Allen Lazard all well ahead of the second-year pro in the team's wide receiver pecking order.

Gipson's snap share on offense plummeted from 59 to 11 percent, corresponding with an increase from 18 to 65 percent for Mike Williams. Gipson was the intended receiver of a Tyrod Taylor pass on a two-point conversion in the final minute, but that play doesn't go down in the books as an official target.
