  • Bears' Luke Newman: Avoids injury report

Newman was not listed on Wednesday's estimated practice report.

Newman was activated from injured reserve ahead of Chicago's Week 17 loss to the 49ers, but he was still inactive for the contest. He should be ready to suit up while serving as a reserve guard in Week 18 against the Lions.

  • Bears' Luke Newman: Unavailable for SNF

Newman (foot) is inactive for Sunday night's contest against the 49ers.

Newman will remain sidelined in Week 17 even though he was activated from injured reserve Saturday. The offensive lineman will have one more chance to return to action in Week 18 before the Bears begin their postseason run.

  • Bears' Luke Newman: Activated from IR

The Bears activated Newman (foot) from injured reserve Saturday, and he remains questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Newman's activation seems like a sign that he'll be available versus San Francisco on Sunday night, but he hasn't yet had his questionable designation officially cleared. With Darnell Wright (illness) having been added to the injury report as questionable, Newman could have an impact if he's able to return to action Sunday and provide depth at offensive tackle.

  • Bears' Luke Newman: Designated to return from IR

The Bears designated Newman (foot) to return from injured reserve Tuesday, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.

The rookie guard has been stuck on IR since Nov. 27, and his potential return for Week 17 is a great sign for the Bears as they prepare to make a deep playoff run. Newman's practice participation throughout Week 17 will be key in the organization's evaluation of his playing potential for the remainder of the regular season. As it stands, the offensive guard would need to be activated by Jan 13 or he will have to spend the rest of the 2025 season on IR.

  • Bears' Luke Newman: Moved to IR

The Bears placed Newman (foot) on injured reserve Thursday.

Newman will now need to sit out at least four games while on IR. His placement on IR was part of a series of moves that also included defensive backs Kyler Gordon (calf) and Jaylon Johnson (groin) being activated off IR.

  • Bears' Luke Newman: Will miss Week 13 matchup

Newman (foot) has been ruled out for Friday's game against Philadelphia.

Newman wasn't able to participate in any practice sessions this week (two were walkthroughs) due to a foot injury. The rookie logged a season-high 22 offensive snaps last Sunday against Pittsburgh but had previously played just three offensive snaps over his first eight games.

  • Bears' Luke Newman: Scooped up by Bears

The Bears selected Newman in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 195th overall.

After starting three seasons at left tackle at FCS Holy Cross, Newman slid into left guard after transferring to Michigan State before 2024 and started 12 games there. Newman has shorter arms that could make it tough to handle long-armed defenders, but he sports the mobility to get in front of them, and he'll aim to make a name for himself in training camp.
