Top Danny Lansanah News

  • Danny Lansanah: Will not be offered tender by Buccaneers

Lansanah will be non-tendered by the Buccaneers and will become a free agent next week, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lansanah could be re-signed by the Buccaneers after he becomes a free agent, but it looks like Bruce Carter will be given every chance to move back into his starting linebacker role. Lansanah recored one sack and 36 tackles in 16 games this season.

  • Buccaneers' Danny Lansanah: Totals eight tackles in start at middle linebacker

Lansanah totaled eight tackles (three solo), including one for loss, and a pass defensed in Thursday's 31-23 loss to the Rams.

Lansanah drew the start in the middle in place of Bruce Carter (foot/ankle) and acquitted himself well in the run game. Tampa managed to limit Todd Gurley to 48 yards on 21 carries, and the Rams' ground game to 3.0 yards per carry overall. The 30-year-old has prior experience at the Mike spot, having started three games there in 2014 and tallying a pair of pick-sixes among his three interceptions at the position. If Carter is healthy enough to return to the field against the Bears in Week 16, Lansanah would likely revert to his customary strongside linebacker role.

  • Buccaneers' Danny Lansanah: Shifts to weakside linebacker in Thursday's practice

Lansanah shifted over to weakside linebacker in place of the injured Lavonte David (ankle) during Thursday's practice, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lansanah's shift in Thursday's session seems to be solely due to the musical chairs that were necessitated by David's absence. Judging by Wednesday's session, it appears that the 30-year-old was the Bucs' first choice to replace the suspended Kwon Alexander in the middle. However, that plan may obviously be altered if David is unable to take the field against the Falcons. Bruce Carter (concussion) took all the reps at the Mike on Wednesday, and Friday's practice participation report could provide further insight into what role Lansanah may slot into in Week 14.

  • Buccaneers' Danny Lansanah: Works as first-team middle linebacker in Wednesday's practice

Lansanah worked as the first-team middle linebacker during Wednesday's practice, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 30-year-old interestingly received first crack at reps at the Mike in the wake of Kwon Alexander's suspension, with Bruce Carter (concussion) manning Lansanah's customary strongside spot in Wednesday's session. Lansanah has amassed 41 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a pair of passes defensed over 263 defensive snaps this season, and started two games at middle linebacker in 2014. He also flashed some playmaking ability during those opportunities, snagging three interceptions and returning two for touchdowns. Thursday's practice report should yield further insight into whether he's likely to start in the middle versus the Falcons in Week 14.
