The NHL Daily Fix is your morning wakeup call with news and notes for the day's hockey action.
Morning Buzz |
• Super Bowl fever: Catch it. San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture has, and he celebrated his goal against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night by Kaepernicking, the act of kissing one's bicep in an act of celebration.
It's the signature celebration of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and has replaced Tebowing as the meme of the NFL postseason.
The Sharks won the game 3-2 in a shootout to remain unbeaten.
• Tomas Vokoun earned his first shutout as a member of the Penguins on Thursday, blanking the New York Rangers in a 3-0 win. The Penguins have a Jekyll and Hyde thing going right now as they are 4-1 on the road, with wins over four playoff teams from last year, but 0-2 at home -- with both losses coming against non-playoff games. [Recap]
• Phil Kessel's puck luck still hasn't changed as he was kept out of the net in the Maple Leafs' 3-2 win over Washington. It certainly wasn't for a lack of chances or effort as he finished with 15 shot attempts, six of which were on goal. He was robbed more than once by Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth. The goals are coming. He's long overdue. [Recap]
• After it gave up seven goals to the Buffalo Sabres (and another five-point night for Thomas Vanek) Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien called his team's defense brain-dead.
