The Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 win in Detroit on Saturday settled the fourth, fifth and sixth playoff spots in the Western Conference.
We now know the Predators (fourth) and Red Wings (fifth) are going to meet in the first round with Nashville having home-ice advantage, and the Blackhawks are going to finish in the sixth spot.
The Red Wings, still trying to grab the No. 4 spot, scored two third period goals, including one in the final minute from Pavel Datsyuk, to send the game to overtime, where they needed a win to put pressure on Nashville for its game Saturday night in Colorado. Neither team was able to score in the extra period, but Chicago's Patrick Kane was able to score the only goal in the tiebreaker to give Chicago the extra point, and it was a beauty.
Just before Kane's goal, Datsyuk opened the shootout for Detroit and attempted a similar move, and very nearly pulled it off.
