NEWARK N.J. -- For the second time this season, Adam Henrique not only scored an overtime winner, he scored an overtime winner in an elimination game.

With this goal only 1:03 into overtime, Henrique launched the New Jersey Devils back to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in almost a decade and ousted the Rangers 3-2. In the process he also set off one wild celebration with his teammates.

This is a nice little reputation he's building.

"It was exciting," Henrique said after the game sitting next to Martin Brodeur. "That was Johnny on the spot for that one, I guess. Kovalchuk and Ponikarovsky did a good job in front. I was sitting there. I couldn't see the puck. I knew it was down, and I was just praying it was going to come under his pad. It's a big one. It's one you dream about."

Oh, and by the way, that goal came after this moment in the third period.

That's not the type of cup check players like this time of year.

Well Henrique is living the dream. He continues to make his mark on a veteran-laden Devils team despite being a rookie. He earned himself a nomination for the Calder Trophy this season and now he's busy scoring the biggest goals of the season for the Devils.

To say he's been a welcome addition to the Devils would be an understatement.

"Unflappable," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said to describe Henrique. "I mean, this kid's just the right place, right time, all the time. The two biggest goals of the playoffs come off his stick, and that's not accidental."

This is a recurring dream that any player would love to have. He put the Devils into the second round when he scored in double overtime in Game 7 against Florida in the opening round. Now he did it against the rival Rangers on home ice.

His teammates, even veteran Martin Brodeur, who has been around the block a few times and been here before, erupted. Brodeur came flying down the ice once he was convinced that the goal was good and flew onto the pile. Asked how fast he got down the ice, Brodeur responded with a smile.

"That was pretty quick."

The emotions were felt all over the Devils. Stephen Gionta couldn't keep the smile off his face in the dressing room some 30 minutes after the game finished.

"It was awesome, it was awesome," Gionta said. "It's a feeling that you can't really describe in words. You get goosebumps just seeing that puck cross the line."

There were probably a lot of people around the Tri-State area feeling those goosebumps, not just Gionta. And they can all thank the rookie who is saving his best for the biggest.
