The Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, has been sweeping the internet in a spot of viral activism. Now it’s sweeping through the NHL as the Boston Bruins have gone through challenging each other with some great results. Now the game’s most famous player is getting involved as Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby accepted teammate Craig Adams’ challenge.

If you haven’t seen the Ice Bucket Challenge, a participant accepts a challenge from someone who has already taken the challenge. He or she then must fill a bucket of water with ice before dumping it over their own head. That person then challenges other individuals to take the challenge. They must accept within 24 hours (or so) and continue the chain.

Here’s more from Mashable.com on how this all originated:

The idea of using buckets of ice water as a platform for ALS awareness came from former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2012. Together with fellow ALS patient Pat Quinn, who inspired the charity Quinn For The Win, the pair began to challenge their social networks to take the plunge in late July.

Here’s Adams’ challenge to Crosby, in which he got his entire family involved.

Crosby added his own hockey twist a la Bruins defenseman Torey Krug, by shoveling ice shavings from the local arena into a large plastic bin. He also challenged teammates Marc-Andre Fleury, Kris Letang and Pascal Dupuis.

Crosby fans will like seeing this because their favorite player is being charitable. Everyone else will like it because it’s Sidney Crosby getting drenched in a sort of subliminal dunk tank sort of way.

Now that Crosby’s done, which NHL player would you most like to issue an Ice Bucket Challenge to?
