The St. Louis Blues were 5-2 winners over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night and things started to turn a little physical midway through the third period.
It all started behind the net with Devils forward Bobby Farnham getting knocked to the ice by Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. Seemingly annoyed by that hit (a totally clean and legal hit, by the way), he decided to take out his frustration on the first Blues player he saw and obliterated Dmitrij Jaskin for some reason.
That is when everybody on the ice converged on Farnham, a sequence that eventually resulted in Blues enforcer Ryan Reaves pounding on Jordin Tootoo, including after he already knocked him to the ice.
It was quite a scene, and here it is via Hockeyfights.com.
Naturally, a lot of penalties came out of that mess.
Farnham was given a five-minute major and a 10-minute misconduct for interference, while Blues forward Kyle Brodziak also earned a 10-minute misconduct. Reaves and Tootoo were given five-minute majors for fighting.
It all started because Farnham didn't like getting hit behind the net.
