Top Hurricanes News

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Battled puck all night in loss

Andersen made 19 saves in a 5-1 loss to Toronto on Thursday.

The first couple goals were purely bad luck. The first went off the post, hit Andersen and trickled over the line. The second hit the back glass and the puck bounced into the slot where a Leaf player drilled it past the stunned netminder. Andersen allowed four goals. He has really struggled over the last month. His last regulation win was Nov. 8, and he's 1-4-2 in seven starts. Andersen has allowed 23 goals in that span.

  • Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Top-10 NHL sniper

Jarvis scored a goal Thursday in a 5-1 loss to Toronto.

It was a gimme -- Shayne Gostisbehere took a pass in the slot before wrapping around Leafs' defender Morgan Rielly right to Jarvis, who had an easy backdoor tap-in. He has five goals in his last games and 16 (23 points) in 26 games this season. Jarvis is in a four-way tie with Leon Draisaitl, Wyatt Johnston and Tom Wilson for ninth in goal scoring across the NHL.

  • Hurricanes' K'Andre Miller: Sitting out Thursday

Miller (illness) is not expected to play Thursday versus the Maple Leafs, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News

Miller was deemed questionable to play prior to the contest, but it looks like he'll have to miss at least one game. Mike Reilly figures to step into the lineup in place of Miller, who will try to be ready for Saturday's game versus the Predators.

  • Hurricanes' Domenick Fensore: Recalled by Carolina

Fensore was recalled from AHL Chicago on Thursday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Fensore was sent to the minors in mid-November, but he'll rejoin the Hurricanes ahead of Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs to provide additional depth since K'Andre Miller is considered questionable due to an illness. Fensore has made just three career NHL appearances, logging no points, six blocked shots, four hits, two PIM and a minus-2 rating while averaging 19:10 of ice time.

  • Hurricanes' K'Andre Miller: Questionable Thursday

Miller is questionable for Thursday's game against Toronto because of an illness, per Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News.

Miller has two goals, 11 points, 22 PIM, 41 shots, 27 hits and 19 blocks in 19 outings this season. If he can't play Thursday, then Mike Reilly is expected to draw into the lineup.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Starting against Toronto

Andersen will defend the home crease against the Maple Leafs on Thursday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Andersen has been in a skid across the past few weeks, as he's gone 0-3-2 with a 3.26 GAA and .849 save percentage over his last five starts. He didn't appear in either of Carolina's last two games but will return to the crease for Thursday's home matchup. The Maple Leafs have had a proficient offense this year, scoring 3.42 goals per game, which is the fifth-highest mark in the NHL.

  • Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Practices in non-contact jersey

Slavin (lower body) participated in Tuesday's practice in a non-contact jersey, Ryan Henkel of The Hockey News reports.

This was Slavin's first time back on the ice since he suffered an injury Oct. 11. The 31-year-old's status wasn't updated by the team, but this attendance at practice suggests he is starting to ramp up. Considering the length of his absence, he will likely need a handful of practices before being ready to play again, so his return is not yet imminent.

  • Hurricanes' Nikolaj Ehlers: Scores lone goal in win

Ehlers scored a goal on two shots in Sunday's 1-0 overtime win over the Flames.

Ehlers converted on a pass from Taylor Hall at 2:52 of overtime for the game's only goal. The tally snapped Ehlers' six-game goal drought, though he still had three assists in that span. After a tough October, the 29-year-old winger got on track in November and is now at a total of five goals, 16 points, 61 shots on net and a plus-4 rating over 25 appearances.

  • Hurricanes' Brandon Bussi: Posts first career shutout

Bussi logged a 15-save shutout in Sunday's 1-0 overtime win over the Flames.

Bussi has hardly been tested over his last two games, though he was playing with no margin for error in Sunday's contest. The 27-year-old has won five straight outings and is 7-1-0 on the year while staking a claim to a larger role in the Hurricanes' crease. He's added a 2.11 GAA and a .907 save percentage through eight starts. The Hurricanes are off until they host the Maple Leafs on Thursday, which is the beginning of a stretch of three games in four days. Bussi should start at least once in that span, and maybe twice if Pyotr Kochetkov (lower body) remains out.

  • Hurricanes' Felix Unger Sorum: Steady in AHL

Unger Sorum scored a goal and added an assist in AHL Chicago's 4-3 shootout loss to Manitoba on Sunday.

Unger Sorum has been the definition of consistency so far, getting on the scoresheet in 16 of 19 games for the Wolves this season. He's also logged three multi-point efforts, including in each of his last two outings. The 20-year-old is up to eight goals, 11 assists, 34 shots on net and a plus-3 rating. While it's not yet his turn to be in line for a call-up, his improved play this season should keep him on the Hurricanes' radar in the next year or two.

  • Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Remains unavailable

Kochetkov (lower body) won't be in the lineup for Sunday's home matchup against Calgary, and there is no timeline for his return, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Kochetkov will miss his sixth straight game. He has been limited to only five appearances this season while posting a 4-0-0 record and allowing seven goals on 95 shots. Frederik Andersen and Brandon Bussi will probably continue to share starts until Kochetkov returns.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Slated to return

Staal (illness) is set to return to the lineup Sunday against the Flames, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Staal has missed the last three games, marking his first three absences of the season. Prior to his departure from the lineup, the 37-year-old had four goals in the last three games and seven goals through 21 games overall. Staal will likely center Carolina's third line Sunday against the Flames.

  • Hurricanes' Brandon Bussi: Facing Flames

Bussi will protect the home net against Calgary on Sunday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Bussi will make his second straight start after a 12-save performance in Friday's 5-1 win over Winnipeg. He has a 6-1-0 record while allowing only 17 goals on 168 shots through seven appearances this season. Calgary ranks 32nd in the league with 2.42 goals per game in the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Hurricanes' Bradly Nadeau: Three points in AHL win

Nadeau scored twice on six shots and added an assist in AHL Chicago's 4-1 win over Manitoba on Saturday.

This was Nadeau's best performance of the campaign for the Wolves. He's collected four points over his last two games after struggling a bit following his demotion back to the AHL following a short stint in the NHL. Nadeau has five goals and 11 points in 11 AHL outings and should continue to position himself well for future call-ups.

  • Hurricanes' Justin Robidas: Dropped to AHL

Robidas was loaned to AHL Chicago on Saturday.

Robidas has one assist, two shots on goal, one blocked shot and three hits in two NHL appearances this season. His demotion to the minors probably bodes well for the availability of Jordan Staal (illness) for Sunday's matchup against Calgary, especially after Staal participated in Saturday's practice.

  • Hurricanes' Justin Robidas: Gets first point of NHL campaign

Robidas logged an assist and two hits in Friday's 5-1 win over the Jets.

Robidas is up from AHL Chicago to help cover some absences up front for the Hurricanes. The 22-year-old was playing in his second game of the campaign Friday and set up Alexander Nikishin's tally in the final minute. Robidas had 12 points in 16 AHL games prior to his call-up, but he'll find it tougher to be productive in a bottom-six role while with the big club.
