Top Devils News

  • Devils' Zack MacEwen: Done for season

MacEwen had knee surgery and will be lost for the remainder of the season, Kristy Flannery of The Hockey News reports Saturday.

MacEwen was injured Nov. 12 and underwent ACL surgery, according to head coach Sheldon Keefe. MacEwen managed six hits and four shots on goal across three appearances for the Devils this season. He should be healthy enough to return for the start of training camp, though he will be an unrestricted free agent come July 1.

  • Devils' Stefan Noesen: Undergoing knee surgery

Noesen (knee) will undergo surgery next week and will go on injured reserve, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Saturday.

Noesen's recovery timeline is unclear, but he will miss an extended period. He had been playing through a lingering issue, which may partially explain his offensive struggles this season. He has produced just three goals, seven points, 52 shots on net and 33 hits through 38 appearances.

  • Devils' Jakub Malek: Shuts out Syracuse

Malek posted a 15-save shutout in AHL Utica's 3-0 win over Syracuse on Friday.

Malek earned his first AHL shutout in just his 11th appearance in the league. He's 4-6-1 with a 3.01 GAA and an .887 save percentage this season. Malek is unlikely to be close to an NHL call-up, as his AHL teammate Nico Daws would be next in line should the Devils need to replace Jacob Markstrom or Jake Allen.

  • Devils' Mikhail Yegorov: Earns first shutout of NCAA season

Yegorov posted an 18-save shutout in Boston University's 1-0 win over UMass-Amherst on Friday.

Yegorov did a strong job in this Hockey East showdown to earn his first shutout of the season. He's up to a 10-7-1 record through 19 appearances this season, surpassing his workload from last year, though his performance has dropped from the 2.15 GAA and .927 save percentage he had in 18 games in 2024-25. The 19-year-old netminder is a Devils prospect, selected in the second round in 2024.

  • Devils' Dennis Cholowski: Hits waiver wire

Cholowski was placed on waivers by the Devils on Friday.

The Devils will send Cholowski to AHL Utica, should he pass through waivers. The veteran blueliner has never established himself in the NHL, despite being selected 20th overall by Detroit in 2016. Cholowski has played 15 games at the NHL level this season, garnering one assist.

  • Devils' Luke Hughes: Scores power-play goal

Hughes scored a power-play goal, recorded two blocks and had two hits in Thursday's 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh.

Hughes ended the Penguins' shutout bid early in the third period with his power-play goal. With the twine finder, he is up to five goals, 22 points, 96 shots on net and 39 blocks through 44 games this season. While he has plenty of time to catch up to the pace necessary to match his career high of 47 points, the 22-year-old blueliner has taken a step forward in other areas. He is on pace to shatter his career high in shots on goal and blocked shots, making him a well-rounded defenseman as opposed to an offensive spear. He still holds solid value in most standard fantasy formats.

  • Devils' Jake Allen: Surrenders four goals in loss

Allen stopped 25 of 29 shots on goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Penguins.

Allen struggled across the first two periods, where he allowed three of the Penguins' four goals. With the loss, he now has an 11-10-1 record with a 2.61 GAA and a .909 save percentage through 23 appearances this season. After a solid start to the campaign, the 35-year-old netminder has a 1-3-1 record over his last five starts. During this time, however, he's maintained a .900 save percentage, which is an encouraging sign for fantasy managers despite his lack of recent appearances in the win column. He has outperformed Jacob Markstrom this season, giving Allen an edge to seize more opportunities down the stretch. In fantasy, he remains a solid option in two-goalie formats. His next chance to bounce back is Sunday against a struggling Jets squad.

  • Devils' Simon Nemec: Returns to lineup Thursday

Nemec will return to the lineup Thursday in Pittsburgh after missing 12 games with a lower-body injury, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.

Nemec has taken his game to a new level in 2025-26, tallying seven goals and adding 11 assists in 31 games before the injury. The second overall pick in 2022, Nemec will likely be eased back into the lineup given the length of his absence.

  • Devils' Jake Allen: Between pipes against Pittsburgh

Allen will start Thursday's road game against the Penguins, Wes Crosby of NHL.com reports.

Allen has alternated starts with Jacob Markstrom over the past several weeks, and that pattern will continue during the second matchup in a four-game road trip for New Jersey. Across his last five starts, Allen has gone 2-2-1 with a 2.40 GAA and .924 save percentage. During a home start against Pittsburgh on Nov. 8, Allen turned aside 33 of 34 shots (.971 save percentage) in a 2-1 win.

  • Devils' Angus Crookshank: Collects three points

Crookshank scored a goal and added two assists in AHL Utica's 5-1 win over Springfield on Wednesday.

Crookshank has five points over four games since returning to Utica. He spent nearly all of December in the NHL, logging one goal, four shots on net, seven blocked shots and five hits over eight appearances. The 26-year-old winger is at a modest 12 points over 21 AHL outings, so it's not clear if he'll get another look with the Devils this season.

  • Devils' Lenni Hameenaho: Three points in Utica's win

Hameenaho scored two goals and added an assist in AHL Utica's 5-1 win over Springfield on Wednesday.

Hameenaho has found a groove with five goals and eight assists over his last 10 outings. That surge has him up to 19 points, 62 shots on net and a minus-9 rating over 30 appearances in his first AHL campaign. The 21-year-old probably won't see much time at the NHL level in 2025-26, but Hameenaho is off to a promising start in North America.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Concedes nine goals vs. NYI

Markstrom stopped 15 of 24 shots in Tuesday's 9-0 loss to the Islanders.

Markstrom has lost in the three outings he's played against the Islanders this season (0-2-1), but this was also his worst outing of the season by any imaginable measure. The Swedish netminder will look to bounce back in his next start. Since he's been splitting the workload in the Devils' crease with Jake Allen, it wouldn't be surprising if Markstrom gets his next call when facing the Jets on Sunday, Jan. 11.

  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: Set to face Islanders again

Markstrom will patrol the road blue paint against the Islanders on Tuesday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Markstrom and Jake Allen have split the crease evenly lately, with both netminders getting six starts in the last 12 games. That workload share has seemingly benefited Markstrom, as he's registered a .914 save percentage and a 2.39 GAA, but he also has a 2-3-0 record during that span, a result of the Devils not providing him with much offensive support in those losses. The Swedish netminder is 8-7-3 against the Islanders across 18 career appearances, including two losses this season (0-1-1).

  • Devils' Jonas Siegenthaler: Two helpers over last three outings

Siegenthaler notched an assist in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes.

Siegenthaler has two helpers over his last three games. Prior to that, he had gone 27 contests without a point despite occupying a steady top-four role for the Devils this season. He's more of a shutdown blueliner, so a long drought isn't too surprising. The 28-year-old is now at four assists, 36 shots on net, 61 hits, 70 blocked shots, 29 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 42 appearances.

  • Devils' Dawson Mercer: Deposits lone goal in loss

Mercer scored a goal on two shots and added two PIM in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes.

Mercer ended his 16-game goal drought with a first-period tally. During that stretch, he was limited to five assists, 34 shots on net and a plus-1 rating. The 24-year-old has been playing center on the second line for the last few games while Jack Hughes works on the wing with Nico Hischier centering the top line. Even with the recent slump, Mercer's at 11 goals and 26 points through 42 outings this season, putting him on pace to top the 50-point mark for the second time in his career.
