SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Erik Garcia and Cameron Jackson each converted a pair of free throws late and Wofford earned its second win in its first seven games by holding off Division II Mars Hill, 79-76 Tuesday night.
Vernon Jackson drilled a 3-pointer to get the Mountain Lions within one, 75-74 with 2:35 left, but Garcia pushed the lead to three with two free throws with 1:29 remaining. Luke Van Rijn's layup got Mars Hill within one again, but Jackson answered from the line with :15 left.
Ryan Sawvell was 9 of 13 shooting from the field, including 2 of 3 from distance, to pace the Terriers (2-5) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Garcia was 6 for 6 from the line and finished with 12 points and 10 assists.
Vernon Jackson led Mars Hill with 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.
