  • Malachi Flynn: Waived by San Antonio

The Spurs waived Flynn on Saturday, Jeff Garcia of KENS 5 San Antonio reports.

The Spurs are pretty much set in their backcourt, so there wouldn't have been enough minutes for Flynn with Chris Paul, Tre Jones, Stephon Castle and even Malaki Branham capable of playing the point guard role. Flynn will aim to look for opportunities elsewhere.

  • Spurs' Malachi Flynn: Gets one-year deal with San Antonio

Flynn and the Spurs agreed to a one-year deal Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

The Pistons didn't extend Flynn a $5.81 million qualifying offer at the end of June, making him an unrestricted free agent. Despite dropping 50 points off Detroit's bench against the Hawks on April 3, Flynn finished the 2023-24 season with averages of 5.5 points, 1.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds across 12.7 minutes in 69 games split between Toronto, New York and Detroit. Flynn will look to compete for a spot in San Antonio's backcourt, which added Stephon Castle and Chris Paul this offseason to a group that already consisted of Tre Jones, Devin Vassell and Malaki Branham.

  • Malachi Flynn: Headed for free agency

The Pistons didn't extend Flynn a $5.81 million qualifying offer Saturday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.

Flynn notably dropped 50 points off the bench in an April 3 game Atlanta, but that was essentially the only highlight of his season. All told, the 26-year-old averaged 5.5 points, 1.9 assists and 1.7 rebounds across 12.7 minutes in 69 regular-season games while bouncing around between the Raptors, Knicks and Pistons. Flynn will look to catch on elsewhere in free agency as a reserve guard.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Crashes down to earth Friday

Flynn accumulated three points (0-12 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound, six assists and two steals over 23 minutes during Friday's 108-90 loss to the Grizzlies.

Flynn was coming off a career-high 50 points in the loss to the Hawks on Wednesday, but he regressed and crashed down to earth Friday. However, this two-game stretch might be the best way to summarize Flynn's career, as he can be extremely inconsistent with his scoring figures on a game-to-game basis. No one would've expected him to miss all of his 12 field goals just two days after scoring 50 points, and Flynn will aim to bounce back against the Nets on Saturday.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Erupts for career-high 50 points

Flynn totaled 50 points (18-25 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 9-12 FT), six rebounds, five assists and three steals across 34 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's 121-113 loss to the Hawks.

For the first month after he was acquired Feb. 8 in a trade with the Knicks, Flynn was an inconsistent member of the Pistons' rotation, but his role has been trending upward of late while Detroit has held out several key players with injuries. Cade Cunningham (knee) was a late scratch Wednesday and joined six other Pistons in street clothes, and while Flynn didn't replace him in the starting five, Cunningham's absence paved the way for the San Diego State product to turn in what was far and away a career-best performance. Flynn nearly doubled up his previous career-best total of 27 points and became just the third reserve player in NBA history to reach the 50-point mark in a game, joining Jamal Crawford (51 for the Suns in 2019) and Nick Anderson (50 for the Magic in 1993). In addition to the big scoring night on efficient shooting, Flynn also set or matched his season highs in rebounds and steals. Flynn will be in store for a role reduction if Cunningham is back for the Pistons' next game Friday in Memphis, but the huge performance certainly puts Flynn on the radar as a streaming option if Cunningham misses any contests over the final week and a half of the season.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Stuffs stat sheet Monday

Flynn finished with 14 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals over 30 minutes during Monday's 124-99 loss to New York.

Flynn posted a solid stat line off the bench in a game where the Pistons looked overmatched. He is not going to have a lot of upside if he continues to play off the bench for a team that's already out of playoff contention.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Posts season high off bench in loss

Flynn contributed 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal across 25 minutes during Sunday's 114-101 loss to New Orleans.

Flynn connected on a team-high-tying trio of threes while leading all Pistons bench players in assists and posting a team-high-tying point total in a losing effort. Flynn set a new season high in scoring, having crossed the double-digit mark in six games this year. His previous season high in scoring was 14 points, which occurred Nov. 22 with the Raptors in a game against Indiana.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Scores 11 in shorthanded backcourt

Flynn posted 11 points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), two rebounds, one assist and two steals in 18 minutes during Monday's 119-94 loss to the Celtics.

Flynn set a new personal high for his Detroit tenure with 18 minutes of action Monday, although the 25-year-old has been an inconsistent part of the rotation of late, picking up five healthy scratches across Detroit's last eight games. Flynn could once again be subtracted from the rotation if Cade Cunningham (knee) is able to return Wednesday versus Indiana.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Chips in eight points

Flynn registered eight points (3-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds and two assists over 12 minutes during Monday's 113-111 loss to the Knicks.

Flynn is a defensively-oriented guard, but he has quietly connected on 35.2 percent of his threes across the past two seasons at low volume. Flynn and Evan Fournier will both receive small upticks in roles over the next week-plus while Marcus Sasser is sidelined by a knee injury.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Moved off injury report

Flynn isn't on the injury report for Tuesday's game versus the Lakers.

Flynn wasn't available for Saturday's 112-106 loss to the Clippers after the Pistons acquired him from the Knicks two days prior, but he'll suit up Tuesday after getting the chance to practice with his new team over the weekend. Now in his third organization of the season, Flynn may not be a major priority for Detroit, especially while the team is at close to full strength in the backcourt. If Flynn does enter the rotation Tuesday, he would likely take over the backup point guard role that belonged to Shake Milton in Saturday's loss. Milton played only 12 minutes in that contest, so the backup role isn't one that carries much fantasy appeal.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Won't play Saturday

Flynn (trade pending) will not be available for Saturday's game against the Clippers.

Flynn was acquired from the Knicks at the deadline, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to carve out a role in Detroit. He'll have his work cut out for him, as Marcus Sasser has really emerged off the bench for the Pistons.

  • Pistons' Malachi Flynn: Packaged to Detroit

The Pistons acquired Flynn, Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Ryan Arcidiacono and two second-round picks from the Knicks on Thursday in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Flynn is likely included in this trade package to match salaries. The 25-year-old guard is averaging 4.2 points, 1.8 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 11.9 minutes across 45 appearances between the Knicks and Raptors this season. While Flynn is unlikely to get much fantasy consideration, he could receive an increase in playing time for a rebuilding Pistons team.

  • Knicks' Malachi Flynn: Not part of rotation

Flynn played the final 3:39 of Tuesday's 112-84 win over the Trail Blazers, tallying two points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and no other statistics.

After being acquired from the Raptors on Dec. 30 in a five-player deal, Flynn's Knicks debut was delayed by a right ankle sprain. He's been available for each of the Knicks' last three games, and while he's appeared off the bench for all of those contests, his playing time has come exclusively at the tail end of blowouts. The fourth-year guard doesn't look like he'll be a fixture in coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation, with Miles McBride and Quentin Grimes instead representing the team's top guards off the bench.

  • Knicks' Malachi Flynn: Available Friday

Flynn (ankle) is available for Friday's game against the 76ers, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Flynn is cleared to make his Knicks debut after being traded by Toronto as part of the package deal that landed OG Anunoby in New York. It's unclear where Flynn fits into the rotation, as Donte DiVincenzo, Josh Hart, Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride should get plenty of run at shooting guard.
