Suns' Khaman Maluach: Returns from G League assignment

Phoenix recalled Maluach from the G League's Valley Suns on Friday.
Maluach took part in practice with the G League club Friday but rejoined the parent club immediately after. He'll be available off the bench for Saturday's game against the 76ers but is unlikely to be part of the rotation so long as Mark Williams and Oso Ighodaro are available to cover the center spot.

Maluach was assigned and recalled on the same day, as he joined the Valley Suns for Sunday's 111-107 loss to the Delaware Blue Coats. The rookie first-rounder recorded 10 points (4-14 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-4 FT), 14 rebounds and two blocks across 33 minutes against Delaware. Maluach has appeared in four of the parent club's last five games, averaging 0.5 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.3 blocks across 2.8 minutes during that span.

Maluach played 37 minutes during the Valley Suns' 102-91 loss to the Austin Spurs on Sunday, finishing with 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-6 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Maluach appeared for just the fourth time in the past eight games, bringing his season total to 17 games. Outside of dynasty formats, Maluach has no fantasy value.

Despite being a lottery pick, Maluach has spent more time in the G League than on an NBA court, primarily because of Phoenix's depth at the center position. Even with Mark Williams (rest) getting the night off for maintenance, the rookie logged just six minutes on the night. He's an intriguing long-term project for the Suns, but it's clear the team is going to bring him along very slowly.
