South Dakota State dominates Stetson 70-7 in season opener
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) James Basinger and Corey Blair Jr. each surpassed 100 yards rushing and combined for three of South Dakota State's 10 touchdowns as the Jackrabbits routed Stetson Hatters 70-7 on Saturday in a season opener.
Basinger and Blair had eight carries apiece, with Basinger finishing with 110 yards rushing and Blair with 107 and two scores. Blair's 52-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage in the second half stretched the Jackrabbits' lead to 49-0.
Josiah Johnson added 63 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Ramon McKinney and Josh Myers also had touchdown runs for South Dakota State. Myers' 27-yard touchdown run capped the scoring late in the third quarter.
Chase Mason completed 5 of 10 passes with a touchdown pass for the Jackrabbits. Josh Hoist threw one pass, a 78-yard TD to Landon Dulaney.
Tom von Grote was 17-of-26 passing for 95 yards to lead Stetson. Chris Stephenson ran 13 times for 69 yards and a score for the Hatters.
South Dakota State, ranked third in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25, played Stetson for the first time and the Jackrabbits are 9-0 against members of the Pioneer League.
Stetson: hosts Webber International on Saturday.
