Alabama linebacker Trey DePriest suffered a stress fracture in his right foot and will miss the rest of spring practice, Nick Saban announced on Wednesday.
DePriest suffered the injury during Saturday's scrimmage, and on Wednesday he was riding an exercise bike with a cast on his foot. The junior linebacker may have been able to finish spring practice without surgery, but Saban told reporters that they wanted to "go ahead and fix it before it got bad."
The Crimson Tide have escaped spring practice without any major injuries to speak of, as the team prepares to chase a third straight national title -- a feat that has not been accomplished since the 1940s. DePriest started 13 games at inside linebacker for the nation's No. 1 defense, making 59 tackles, four for loss.
DePriest's absence for the final few practices and annual spring game will result in extra reps for highly touted sophomore Reggie Ragland. Redshirt freshman Ryan Anderson and sophomore Dillon Lee could see some extra time as well as defensive coordinator Kirby Smart finalizes his linebacker rotation.
