Colorado has found a lot of success on the road lately, winning its last three games away from Folsom Field. And according to coach Deion Sanders, not only does his team thrive in those situations, but it really gets them going.
After a Week 2 loss at Nebraska, the Buffs are 3-0 in their last three road games with an average margin of victory of 24.3 points. Colorado, now 5-2 on the season with road victories over Colorado State, UCF and Arizona, has handled its business and then some, and Sanders offered a rather sultry explanation as to why his group has fared so well in hostile environments.
In his weekly press conference, Sanders explained that Colorado loves playing the role of underdog on the road. In fact, he took it a step further, saying the Buffaloes find it "sexy" to be hated by the opposing fans.
"We like to be booed and naysayed and hated," Sanders said Tuesday. "That turns us on. It's kind of sexy, matter of fact. That's how I felt when I played. I loved to be on the road and get booed and naysayed and hated on. I think we like being the underdogs. We like being those types of people. We don't look at the betting line or whatever, underdogs meaning on the road, away from home. We like that. We like that. We really do."
It's easy to see why Sanders would get excited when the Buffaloes just went down to Tucson and thumped Arizona, 34-7. Colorado out-gained Arizona 405 yards to 245 in a game that was pretty much decided by halftime.
This week, the Buffaloes will be a little less titillated with Cincinnati traveling to Boulder for another Big 12 matchup. Like Colorado, the Bearcats are also 5-2 on the year with a 3-1 mark in conference play. That game kicks off at 9:15 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
