Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier burst onto the college football season last year as a freshman, but he will have some work to do in order to start as a sophomore. The Broncos announced Monday the addition of former USC quarterback Jack Sears. The junior signal caller graduated from USC this spring and will be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer.
Sears played in just one game during his three seasons with the Trojans. He started for an injured JT Daniels vs. Arizona State in 2018 and completed 20 of 28 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 38-35 loss.

Three USC quarterbacks started during the 2019 season, but Sears never saw a snap. The Trojans lost then-sophomore Daniels in the first game of the 2019 season. Kedon Slovis came in and shined early, but it was Matt Fink, not Sears, who came in for Slovis when Slovis went down vs. Utah in the fourth game of the season. The writing was on the wall for Sears, who entered the transfer portal earlier this year.
Sears was a four-star prospect and the No. 105 player in the Class of 2017 out of San Clemente High School. He was the fourth-ranked pro-style quarterback and the No. 13 player in the state of California during the 2017 recruiting cycle, and he was the eight-ranked quarterback transfer in the 2020 247Sports transfer portal rankings.
Now at Boise State, Sears will again find himself in a battle to see the field. Bachmeier completed 137 of 219 passes for 1,879 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions as a true freshman in 2019. He was injured vs. Hawaii on Oct. 12 and missed the next game vs. BYU. He came back the following week against San Jose State but missed the next five games. Bachmeier completed 15 of 26 passes for 119 yards zero touchdowns and two interceptions in the Las Vegas Bowl loss to Washington.
