Utah football fans were alerted to a new arrival this week when it was discovered that former Alabama quarterback Cooper Bateman is on campus and enrolled in classes.
It's not often that a former national champion and member of the Crimson Tide football program can show up and enter the picture without drawing too much attention, but according to the Salt Lake Tribune, it's expected that Bateman will join the Utes as a walk-on, though he's not officially a part of the team yet.
It's also uncertain what position Bateman will play. Bateman picked Alabama over Utah as a four-star quarterback prospect in 2013, but mostly saw action as a holder for the Tide's field goal unit. It's possible that Bateman will push Troy Williams, Utah's returning starter, for snaps but just as likely that he could end up at wide receiver to see the field immediately for his final year of eligibility.
