Sheriron Jones has been released from his scholarship and will be transferring from Tennessee's football program, according to 247Sports' Ryan Bartow.
What makes this particular transfer so intriguing is that it's the second time that Jones has been given permission to transfer out of the program in the last two years.
Jones was a four-star recruit in Tennessee's 2015 class, redshirted the 2015 season and then transferred out of the program with intentions of playing at Colorado. Just a few weeks after the transfer to the Buffaloes, Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre announced that Jones was being released to go back to Tennessee saying it was in the quarterback's "best interests."
Tennessee helped Jones get a waiver to retain his eligibility for 2016. He made appearances in two games last seasons but now he's out the door, apparently for good this time.
According to 247Sports' Wes Rucker, Jones was not in "Tennessee's immediate plans at the quarterback position," consistently behind Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano in the Vols' ongoing competition to replace Joshua Dobbs.
