Two minutes with the national championship on the line? You couldn't have scripted a better ending to Clemson's 35-31 victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship against Alabama. The Tigers got their first national championship since 1981 on the heroics of quarterback Deshaun Watson and the offense.
Here's how it happened.
Clemson started the drive on its 32-yard line after Alabama went ahead 31-28 on a Jalen Hurts 30-yard touchdown run. From there, Watson completed back-to-back passes to tight end Jordan Leggett -- who earlier dropped a key pass on third down -- and receiver Mike Williams. Williams, who had eight catches for 94 yards, was making leaping grab after leaping grab.
Clemson then executed a hook-and-lateral for a 6-yard gain. Four plays later on a second-and-10, Watson hit a diving Leggett for a 17-yard completion to put the Tigers at the Alabama 9-yard line.
After an Alabama pass interference penalty -- which wasn't terrible considering it took three seconds off the clock and reduced the Tigers to one more play from scrimmage -- Watson hit Hunter Renfrow in the right flat for the game-winning touchdown.
Renfrow, a former walk-on, finished with 10 catches for 92 yards and a pair of scores. The sophomore now has four touchdowns against the Crimson Tide in two games, accounting for 36 percent of his 11 career touchdowns.
Watson finished with 420 yards passing, the second-highest amount allowed by Alabama this season.
