Kendell Beckwith: Tenure over in Tampa Bay
Beckwith (ankle) was waived by the Buccaneers on Tuesday with a non-football injury designation, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
Backwith hasn't seen any game action since suffering a serious ankle injury during a car accident in 2018, and pressure to cut the roster down now prompts the Buccaneers to move on. As a rookie back in 2017, Beckwith impressed with 73 tackles (60 solo), one sack and one forced fumble across 16 games.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Not guaranteed roster spot
Beckwith (ankle), who was activated from the reserve/non-football injury list in February, is competing for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Beckwith still has yet to retake the field since sustaining injuries in an April 2018 car accident, but Tampa Bay's decision to promote him to the 90-man roster from the NFI list over the offseason is an indication that he's returned to health. If the Buccaneers feel the need to add veterans to the roster when training camp begins, however, Beckwith could find himself fighting an uphill battle to stick. The 2017 third-round pick handled a full 16-game slate as a rookie, amassing 73 tackles (60 solo), one sack and one forced fumble.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Hits Reserve/NFI list
Beckwith (ankle) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Friday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
The third-year linebacker's career thus continues on pause for the time being following an April 2018 car accident. Beckwith's presence would be particularly valued in a season during which the Buccaneers will undergo a transition to a 3-4 defense under new coordinator Todd Bowles, but with an uncertain timetable for any return to on-field work, he can't be counted on for any significant role in 2019 at the moment. Beckwith did manage to participate in practice on a limited basis during a three-week roster-exemption window last season after opening the campaign on the NFI list, but he was never cleared for a return to game action. Shaquil Barrett and Deone Buccannon were brought in during free agency as linebacker options to help offset Beckwith's absence and Kwon Alexander's departure to the 49ers, but Jason Pierre-Paul's neck injury, if season-ending, would naturally represent another major step back at the position.

General manager Jason Licht declined to give an update on Beckwith's recovery from a fractured ankle Tuesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

The third-year pro spent all of 2018 on the NFI list but did briefly surface in team practices before ultimately being shut down for the season. Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Practices Wednesday
Beckwith (ankle) rejoined practice Wednesday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Beckwith's appearance at practice opens his 21-day evaluation window for a potential return to the field. He spent the first eight weeks of the season on the Non-Football Injury/reserve list after breaking his ankle in an April car accident, but it appears he's nearly healthy and will have a good chance to take the field in 2018. As a rookie, Beckwith racked up 73 tackles (60 solo) and a sack while playing 850 snaps. There's a good chance he will retake a job in the starting 11 when he rejoins the team.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Return timetable remains uncertain
Beckwith (ankle), who was placed on the Non-Football Injury/reserve list Sept. 1 due to an offseason automobile accident, remains without a firm timetable for return, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. "I'm not sure if he'll be able to practice next week," said head coach Dirk Koetter. "I think we've got to remember Kendell suffered a serious injury. Although it was a non-football injury, it was serious, and he had a serious surgery. He is fighting hard to make it back. I'm not sure if he'll be quite ready next week to practice."
The second-year linebacker is eligible to begin practicing next week after completing a full six weeks on the NFI list, but Koetter's comments cast plenty of doubt on that being a realistic proposition. The team will have a 21-day window from Monday's date to decide what Beckwith's status will be for the remainder of the season. In the interim, Adarius Taylor figures to continue filling in for Beckwith at strong-side linebacker.

Beckwith had been on the NFI list for the duration of training camp and he's yet to return from his fractured ankle. He's eligible to return to action in six weeks, meaning he'll miss at least five of Tampa Bay's regular-season games as he works his way back to action.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Racks up 73 stops as rookie
Beckwith finished the 2017 season with 73 tackles (60 solo), including six for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and two passes defensed over 16 games.
The energetic LSU product beat the odds by not only participating in all of training camp following a November 2016 ACL tear while with the Tigers, but eventually securing a starting job to open the regular season. Beckwith opened the Week 2 opener against the Bears as the strong-side linebacker before shifting to the middle early in that contest when Kwon Alexander injured his hamstring. The 23-year-old remained at that spot until Alexander returned in Week 7, a development that was marked by a notable drop in IDP production for Beckwith. While he compiled an impressive 41 tackles over his five games in Alexander's spot, Beckwith managed just 32 stops over the remaining 11 games. He did post a pair of five-tackle outings in Weeks 15 and 16, which represented a slight increase in productivity. Following a college career in which he generated a solid amount of impact plays (24.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries), overall expectations were likely higher for Beckwith, but a full offseason in the Buccaneers' system and several additional months of distance from his aforementioned knee injury leave him poised for a more productive sophomore campaign.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Five tackles in Week 15 loss
Beckwith posted five tackles (four solo) in Monday night's 24-21 loss to the Falcons.
The rookie posted his best tackle numbers since Week 6, as he was one of the few linebackers left standing after the Buccaneers suffered a jaw-dropping barrage of injuries during the contest. Tampa came into the contest without Lavonte David (hamstring) and then lost Adarius Glanton (leg) and Devante Bond (neck) as the night unfolded. Beckwith could be in for another solid tackle total in Week 16 against a Panthers team that focuses fairly heavily on the running game and short passing attack.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Tallies first career sack in win
Beckwith posted two solo tackles, including one for loss, and one sack in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Jets.
The rookie linebacker notched his first career quarterback takedown when he brought Josh McCown down for a key eight-yard loss at the Buccaneers' 20-yard line late in the first half. The sack left the Jets in a 3rd-and-long situation that led to them having to settle for a Chandler Catanzaro 47-yard field goal. That impact play aside, Beckwith has seen a steep drop in production over the last three games, as he's managed just five tackles over that span. As a result, his IDP stock remains low for the time being.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: One tackle in blowout loss
Beckwith (knee) posted one tackle in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Saints.
The rookie linebacker played through his knee ailment and logged 34 snaps, but he was notably unproductive for the second consecutive contest. Beckwith has just three stops in the last two contests after posting 45 tackles in his first six games. Beckwith's sudden downturn in production -- which has coincided with Kwon Alexander's return to action from a hamstring injury -- has him off the IDP radar for the moment.

Buccaneers' Kendell Beckwith: Playing in Week 9
Beckwith (knee) is active for Sunday's Week 9 tilt against the Saints, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
The rookie linebacker has been dealing with the knee ailment since exiting early the Week 8 loss to the Panthers and then practicing in a limited fashion this past week. However, Beckwith is apparently ready to roll against a versatile Saints offense that should particularly keep him busy with a two-pronged ground attack of Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara.
