  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Moved to IR

Whitehead (pectoral) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

As expected, Whitehead will need to miss at least four games after rupturing his pectoral Sunday against the Giants. There remains a possibility he could return this season, but it could take a Tampa Bay playoff run in order for him to be able to do so. Mike Edwards likely will take over Whitehead's starting strong safety role in the meantime.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Out Sunday, as expected

Whitehead (pectoral) has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 13 matchup against the Panthers.

Whitehead ruptured his pectoral last Sunday against the Giants, so there was never a real chance of him suiting up Week 13. Though the veteran safety is expected to be out several weeks, he's not currently slated for surgery, and there's a chance he could return at some point before the end of the campaign. Mike Edwards likely will move into a starting role with Whitehead out of action.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Not ruling out 2024 return

Whitehead does not have surgery scheduled after sustaining a ruptured pectoral during Sunday's game against the Giants, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

It was feared that Whitehead would have to shut his season down after suffering a serious injury in Week 12, but there's a chance he could return this year if Tampa Bay makes a playoff run. In the meantime, his absence could propel Mike Edwards into a starting role at safety.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Season may be over

Whitehead may have suffered a torn pectoral in Sunday's win over the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Whitehead will undergo an MRI to receive confirmation of the severity, and if that is the diagnosis, it will put an early end to the 27-year-old's season. His absence would certainly be a blow to the team's secondary and thrust the recently acquired Mike Edwards into a starting role.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Done for the day

Whitehead (pectoral) will not return to Sunday's game against the Giants, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

The safety recorded five solo tackles, including a tackle for a loss, before exiting. Whitehead has played on nearly every defensive snap in most of Tampa Bay's games this season. Mike Edwards is his backup.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Career-high 12 tackles vs. Niners

Whitehead finished Sunday's 23-20 loss to the 49ers with 12 tackles (seven solo).

Whitehead's 12 tackles Sunday not only led both teams but also surpassed his career-high 11 tackles that he set in Week 2 against the Lions. Through the first 10 games of the regular season, Whitehead has logged 71 tackles (43 solo) and three pass defenses.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Good to go for Week 10

Whitehead (quadriceps) has been cleared to play against the 49ers on Sunday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Despite opening the week with back-to-back DNPs, Whitehead gave himself a chance to play Sunday after logging a limited practice session Friday. Despite the quadriceps injury, Whitehead has played through lower-body injuries since early October, so he'll likely see a heavy snap count Sunday. Through the first nine games of the regular season, Whitehead has logged 59 tackles (36 solo) and three pass defenses.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Questionable for Sunday

Whitehead (quadriceps) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the 49ers.

The 27-year-old opened Tampa Bay's week of practice with consecutive DNPs, but he upgraded to a limited session Friday, suggesting he could be trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday. However, if Whitehead can't play through his quadriceps issue in Week 10, expect Kaevon Merriweather to serve as the Buccaneers' top strong safety.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Unavailable for practice Wednesday

Whitehead (quadriceps) did not participate at the Buccaneers' practice Wednesday.

Whitehead compiled nine total tackles (five solo) in Monday's 30-24 loss to Kansas City, but he may have left the contest a little worse for wear. The safety will have two more chances to return to practice this week and move past the quadriceps issue ahead of Sunday's matchup with the 49ers.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Strong showing in big win

Whitehead recorded seven tackles (six solo) in the Buccaneers' 51-27 win over the Saints on Sunday.

Whitehead had exited the Week 5 loss to the Falcons with a groin injury that also led to limited participation to start Week 6 prep. However, there was nary a trace of the issue in Sunday's big win, with Whitehead logging a 99.0 percent snap share (69 snaps) and finishing second in tackles to Lavonte David. Whitehead has at least six stops in all but one game this season, and the contest he fell short in was the aforementioned injury-shortened one versus Atlanta. The veteran safety remains a reliable IDP option, with his 43 total tackles putting him comfortably on pace to eclipse the career-high 97 he recorded with the Jets in 2023.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: Active in Week 6

Whitehead (groin) is active for Sunday's game in New Orleans, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

After making an exit in the second half of a Week 5 loss to the Falcons on Thursday Night Football, Whitehead opened Week 6 prep with back-to-back limited practices, but he returned to full participation Friday and went into the weekend listed as questionable. With 10 days between games to get healthy, he'll be out there Sunday in his typical role as the Bucs' starting strong safety, welcoming back free safety Antoine Winfield (foot) for the first time since Week 1. Whitehead has been productive with 36 tackles (24 solo) and three pass defenses through five outings this season.

  • Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead: On track to play Week 6

Whitehead (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, but he's considered likely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Though he's carrying a designation into Sunday, Whitehead looks on track to suit up after he was a limited participant in practices Wednesday and Thursday before turning in a full session Friday. Tampa Bay should have both its starting safeties available for the first time since Week 1, as Antoine Winfield (foot) is listed as questionable but is also expected to play after missing the previous four games. Whitehead has tallied 36 tackles and three pass breakups through the first five weeks of the campaign.
