Cornell Powell: Cut loose by Pittsburgh
The Steelers cut Powell from the practice squad Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
It was a short stint for Powell, who signed with the practice squad Nov. 25 and was not elevated for last Sunday's loss against the Bills. The move was coupled with the re-signing of defensive back Daequan Hardy. Hardy will see his second stint on the Steelers this season after previously being signed to the practice squad Nov. 4. Powell will now go on waivers and if he clears them he will become a free agent.

The Steelers signed Powell to the practice squad Tuesday.
Powell briefly spent time with the Texans over the summer but has been out of work since being cut by Houston prior to Week 1. A fifth-round pick by the Chiefs in 2021, Powell has appeared in just three career regular-season games but didn't see a single target in the pass game.

Cornell Powell: Cut by Houston
The Texans waived Powell on Tuesday.
After being drafted by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Powell has had a hard time finding opportunities in the league, as he's played in only three regular-season games (all in 2022). The Clemson product won't make Houston's initial 53-man roster despite shining in his lone preseason contest with the club, catching six of seven targets for 63 yards Saturday versus Detroit.

Texans' Cornell Powell: Signs with Houston
The Texans signed Powell on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Powell was one of two wideouts signed by Houston on Monday, along with Juwann Winfree, after John Metchie was traded to the Eagles. The 27-year-old Powell has spent time with Kansas City and the Seahawks, and has played for the DC Defenders of the UFL. He's appeared in three career NFL games without recording a target.

The Seahawks waived Powell on Friday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Powell spent the second half of the 2024 regular season on the Seahawks' practice squad, and he was signed to a reserve/future contract in early January despite never being elevated to the active roster. Assuming he clears waivers, the 2021 fifth-round pick will look to catch on with another team looking to add depth to its wide-receiver corps.

Powell ended the season on the Seahawks' practice squad after being cut by the Chiefs on Oct. 22. He last saw NFL regular-season action in 2022 with Kansas City, during which he played 31 snaps (three on offense, 28 on special teams) across three games but didn't show up on the box score otherwise.

Powell was released from the Chiefs' practice squad on Tuesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
Powell failed to make Kansas City's final 53-man roster during training camp, but he ultimately returned to the practice unit on Oct. 22. His exit after nearly one month with the team was a corresponding move in order to add fellow pass catcher Tyquan Thornton. The 2021 fifth-round pick will now be on the lookout for a new opportunity.

The 2021 fifth-round pick spent all of last season on the Chiefs' practice squad, but he was waived in late August after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. Powell will be available for an elevation to the active roster should Kansas City need him in a special teams role on game day.

The Chiefs signed Powell on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Powell, who finished this past season on Kansas City's practice squad, will thus have an opportunity to compete for a depth slot in the team's 2024 wideout corps. The 2021 fifth-rounder last saw regular-season action in 2022, when he suited up for three games with the Chiefs en route to recording three snaps on offense and 28 snaps as a special-teamer.

Cornell Powell: Joins KC's practice squad
The Chiefs added Powell (hamstring) to their practice squad Wednesday.
Powell was nursing a hamstring injury prior to getting waived during final roster cuts, so his subsequent addition to Kansas City's practice squad indicates he has put the issue behind him. The 25-year-old has spent his first two seasons bouncing back and forth between the Chiefs' practice and active rosters, and is looking at a similar scenario in 2023.
