The Vikings waived Stanley (undisclosed) on Tuesday.
Stanley's dismissal leaves Kirk Cousins, Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond as the quarterbacks left on Minnesota's offseason roster. As a rookie seventh-round draft pick in 2020, Stanley spent his first professional season on Minnesota's practice squad. He resided on the Vikings' injured reserve list for the entirety of the 2021 campaign.

Vikings' Nate Stanley: Reverts to injured reserve
Stanley (undisclosed) reverted to Minnesota's injured reserve Wednesday, per the NFL's official transactions report.
The Vikings waived Stanley with an injury designation Tuesday, and after going unclaimed, he's now back on the team's IR. Stanley will remain on IR for all of 2021 barring an injury settlement, while Minnesota heads into the regular season with Kellen Mond as the primary backup to Kirk Cousins.

The Vikings selected Stanley in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Iowa product was unable to make the team and instead resided on the practice squad all season. The 23-year-old will compete to be Kirk Cousin's backup in 2021.

The 2020 seventh-round selection was always viewed as a likely practice squad candidate, so this designation shouldn't be entirely surprising. Stanley certainly has plenty of tools to develop into an athletic quarterback and is expected to get that opportunity to grow on the Vikings' practice squad.

Vikings' Nate Stanley: Minnesota adds in seventh
The Vikings selected Stanley in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 244th overall.
Stanley (6-foot-4, 235) is a big and fairly toolsy quarterback, and he's arguably a bargain this late in the draft after starting three years at Iowa. The only problem with Stanley is that, after breaking out for 26 touchdown passes and six interceptions as a sophomore, he never really showed any improvement from there.
