Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Set for backup duties
Ehlinger will operate as Indianapolis' top backup to Garner Minshew beginning with Sunday's game against the Jaguars after Anthony Richardson (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
Ehlinger has been inactive for four of the Colts' first five games, with the lone time he's dressed coming in Week 3 at Baltimore while Richardson was sidelined with a concussion. After suffering an AC joint sprain to his throwing shoulder in the Week 5 win over the Titans, Richardson is projected to miss 4-to-8 weeks, setting Ehlinger up for an extended run as the No. 2 quarterback. The Colts also signed Kellen Mond to their practice squad Wednesday to provide the organization with further depth at quarterback.

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Moves past shoulder issue
Ehlinger wasn't listed Wednesday on the Colts' first Week 5 injury report.
Ehlinger was listed as questionable ahead of last week's game against the Rams due to a right shoulder injury. He was ultimately inactive for the Colts' 29-23 overtime loss, but that might have had more to do with his standing as Indianapolis' No. 3 quarterback behind Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew than because of the injury. Now that he's off the injury report entirely, Ehlinger should be in the clear for Sunday's game against the Titans, though he might be a healthy inactive this time around.

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Questionable with shoulder injury
Ehlinger is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams with a right shoulder injury.
Ehlinger was a limited practice participant Thursday and didn't practice Friday, suggesting that he suffered the injury during the week. If available, Ehlinger would be called upon Sunday only if both Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew get injured. Richardson has been cleared to start after missing the Colts' Week 3 win over the Ravens while recovering from a concussion.
