Titans' Cam Ward: Uneven performance in preseason opener
Ward completed five of 12 targets for 57 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed once for two yards in the Titans' 19-13 preseason win over the 49ers on Thursday.
Ward's final line underscores his inconsistent performance as he officially began game preparations for his second season. The 2025 first overall pick played on the Titans' first three drives, and he helped lead Tennessee to a touchdown on its opening possession with a marathon 11-play, 95-yard drive that featured 18- and 16-yard completions to Calvin Ridley and Gunnar Helm, respectively. Those two throws served as the highlights of Ward's night, and he'll aim for more efficiency in his second preseason game on Sunday, Aug. 23 at home against the defending champion Seahawks.

Titans' Cam Ward: Likely playing Thursday night
Ward and other starters are scheduled to play in Thursday's preseason opener against San Francisco, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports.
The combination of a young QB and a new coaching staff could lead to more playing time than usual this preseason. Still, there's no guarantee of Ward playing more than a series or two Thursday night.

Titans' Cam Ward: Confident entering Year 2
Ward said Wednesday that he feels like a better quarterback entering Year 2, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll emphasized Ward's fuller understanding of the game from the perspective of the offensive line and receivers, lending credence to the 2025 first-rounder's increased confidence. Ward started all 17 games as a rookie and showed late-season improvement, then returned healthy for OTAs after a right shoulder injury in the 2025 finale. His first training-camp practice offered another encouraging sign, as he completed 11 of 16 passes with two touchdowns, per Wyatt. Ward's fantasy appeal is still tied to the overall growth of Tennessee's offense, as well as his chemistry with new top wideouts Carnell Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson, but signals have been positive ahead of the 2026 regular season.
