Top Deuce Vaughn News

  • Deuce Vaughn: Signs with Denver's practice squad

The Broncos signed Vaughn to the practice squad Tuesday, Matt Zenitz of CBSSports.com reports.

Vaughn was unable to make the Cowboys' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. The 2023 sixth-rounder will get another opportunity with the Broncos as a member of the scout team, and he would be a top candidate to be elevated to Denver's active roster if the team is in need of backfield depth. Vaughn appeared in seven regular-season games for the Cowboys in 2024 and logged 17 carries for 70 yards and three catches (on five targets) for 18 yards.

  • Deuce Vaughn: Cut by Cowboys

Dallas waived Vaughn on Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Vaughn, a 2023 fifth-round pick, could be a candidate for the Cowboys' practice squad if he goes unclaimed on waivers. The presence of veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders (shoulder) atop the backfield depth chart, plus rookie Jaydon Blue (ankle), had always made it unlikely Vaughn would secure a spot on the initial 53-man roster.

  • Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn: Leads team in rushing Friday

Vaughn carried the ball 10 times for 42 yards and added 22 yards on one kickoff return in Friday's 31-13 preseason win over the Falcons.

The 2023 sixth-round pick got the start for Dallas and gained most of his yardage on the team's opening drive, as he helped set up a one-yard TD run for Joe Milton. Miles Sanders (shoulder) was held out of the contest and Jaydon Blue left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury, so Vaughn's solid performance may prove to be timely as he tries to win a spot in the backfield behind presumed Week 1 starter Javonte Williams.

  • Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn: Follows Sanders in preseason loss

Vaughn rushed the ball five times for 11 yards in Saturday's 31-13 preseason loss to the Ravens. He added one reception on one target for seven yards.

Vaughn had risen up the depth chart in Dallas with Jaydon Blue (heel) and Miles Sanders both sidelined. However, Sanders returned to practice this week and started Saturday's contest ahead of Vaughn. Depending on the severity of Blue's injury, Vaughn could enter the regular season third on the depth chart, but regular touches in the offense don't appear likely barring additional injuries.

  • Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn: Getting first-team reps

Vaughn worked with the first-team offense during practice Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports.

The undersized back showed his usual elusiveness, but Vaughn heads into his third NFL season having yet to make much of an impact with his rare touches in game action. He's getting opportunities with the first team while rookie Jaydon Blue (heel) is sidelined, but Vaughn faces an uphill battle to even have a spot on the 53-man roster with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders also ahead of him on the depth chart, and 2025 seventh-round pick Phil Mafah looking good in camp as well.

  • Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn: Resumes practicing Thursday

Vaughn (hamstring) returned to practice Thursday, Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Vaughn's return to practice should pave the way for him to suit up in Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams. He's vying for a depth role in a Dallas backfield that also includes Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders (knee), Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. Vaughn is the only member of that group that was with the Cowboys last season.

  • Cowboys' Deuce Vaughn: Expected to return soon

Vaughn (hamstring) is expected to return to practice this week, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Vaughn has been sidelined at practice with a hamstring injury, but he may be nearing a return to action. The running back is expected to operate as a depth option behind Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders this season, likely making his greatest impact on special teams.
