Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Houser (groin), who remains on the 15-day injured list and is on a rehab assignment, is trending toward making a start soon for the big-league club, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
McCalvy believes that start could come against the Giants in the Brewers' upcoming three-game series in San Francisco this weekend. Houser covered five innings and 80 pitches last Friday in his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Nashville, allowing three runs. The Brewers haven't officially decided on Houser's next step or his role once he's activated, but if he joins the rotation, he would likely be replacing Colin Rea as the team's No. 5 starter.
