The Dodgers designated Barnes for assignment Wednesday.
The move makes room on the Dodgers' 26- and 40-man rosters for Edwin Diaz (elbow), who was activated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. If he clears waivers, Barnes will have the option of staying in the Dodgers organization or explore his options as a free agent.
