Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Starting rehab assignment Thursday
DeGrom (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday before making his first rehab start Thursday for Double-A Frisco, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com reports.
DeGrom will pitch in a game for the first time since he underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2023. The 35-year-old is expected to require several rehab starts, but he appears to be on track to return from the 60-day injured list in September. The Rangers are unlikely to contend for a playoff spot this season, but they would like to see deGrom get a few starts under his belt down the stretch to provide a gauge of what type of workload he can handle in 2025, per Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com. DeGrom also stated that it's important for him to return this season and that he looks forward to having a normal offseason.
