The Red Sox have become aware of medical information about Pomeranz that they believe the Padres did not properly disclose during trade talks, Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports.

In July, the Red Sox traded prized pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza for Pomeranz, who has not pitched particularly well in four starts for Boston. The left-hander has a 6.20 ERA over 20.1 innings. Boston manager John Farrell told Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe that he personally was not aware of a health issue, while president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski had no comment. The Padres were also involved in a trade with the Marlins that was amended when right-hander Colin Rea told Miami that he had been treated for an elbow injury while with San Diego. Rea was returned to the Padres, who announced Friday he will have season-ending Tommy John surgery.
