Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Bogaerts (wrist) will sit out the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays before returning to the lineup for Game 2, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Enrique Hernandez will cover shortstop while Bogaerts misses his third straight game due to a sore left wrist, but the 28-year-old presumably would have entered the lineup if Boston was playing a standalone game. Instead, Bogaerts will get some rest for the front end of the doubleheader before returning to action in the nightcap, when southpaw Steven Matz is scheduled to start for Toronto. Hernandez is expected to move into the outfield for the second game while the lefty-hitting Alex Verdugo likely sits.
