The Rockies released Diaz on Friday.
Diaz was placed on outright waivers earlier in the week, and the Rockies will now cut him loose after he went unclaimed. He's hitting just .196/.250/.268 since the All-Star break, but he's sure to draw interest from teams now that he can be had at the prorated minimum salary. Drew Romo was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to take Diaz's spot on the Rockies' roster.
