McCutchen slugged a three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Marlins, but he'll get a breather in Wednesday's matinee. McCutchen went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer and a pair of walks in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Marlins. McCutchen broke the game open in the fifth inning, launching a three-run homer off Adam Oller to extend Pittsburgh's lead to 6-1. It's the 20th homer of the season for McCutchen -- the 10th time in his 16-year MLB career that he's reached that mark. Since returning Aug. 30 from a two-week IL stint, the 37-year-old McCutchen's gone 9-for-29 with four home runs and a 1.157 OPS. He's slashing .241/.338/.432 with 50 RBI, 64 runs scored and three steals in 470 plate appearances on the season.

McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Nationals. McCutchen's third-inning blast was his 19th of the season, placing him just one shy of reaching the 20-homer milestone for the second time since 2018. The 37-year-old veteran has been battling a knee issue but has been productive when in the lineup, batting 17-for-53 (.321) with six home runs and 17 RBI over 15 games since the start of August.

McCutchen isn't in the Pirates' lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Washington. McCutchen will get a breather to conclude Saturday's activities after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout during Game 1. Bryan Reynolds will serve as Pittsburgh's DH, opening up a spot in left field for Michael Taylor.
