Iglesias has been suspended one game by Major League Baseball for his actions following Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Cubs, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports. Iglesias was among several Padres players to voice their displeasure to the umpire crew following their Game 3 loss, but he's the only one to receive a suspension. Much of the angst was over a strike three call on Xander Bogaerts, who received a fine. Barring a successful appeal, Iglesias will serve the suspension on Opening Day next year. The 35-year-old is a pending free agent.

Iglesias is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the Wild Card Series versus the Cubs. Iglesias started the last two games of the regular season, but he'll retreat to the bench for the first game of the postseason. Jake Cronenworth will occupy second base against lefty Matthew Boyd and the Cubs.

Iglesias cut the Padres' deficit to one with a solo homer off Freddy Peralta in the fifth inning of a game San Diego went on to win in extras, clinching a postseason berth. The veteran infielder has struggled overall with a .582 OPS in 109 games, but he's been swinging the bat well lately, slashing .308/.438/.538 over his past seven contests. Iglesias has seen increased playing time with Xander Bogaerts (foot) sidelined, though that role is likely to shrink once Bogaerts returns ahead of the playoffs.

Iglesias (hand) is starting at third base and batting seventh Sunday against the Rockies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. The veteran infielder hasn't been in the lineup since being hit by a pitch on the hand Tuesday, though his absence may not have been due to the injury given he still made two appearances off the bench. Iglesias will fill in at the hot corner Sunday for Manny Machado, who is out of the lineup for the first time in 2025.
