  The Red Sox released Perez on Tuesday. Perez has been on the injured list at Triple-A Worcester all season as he recovered from right rotator cuff surgery. The team had been hoping he could be game-ready by now, but that wasn't the case and it's uncertain when he might be ready to play. Perez will look to latch on with another organization.

  Perez (shoulder) signed a minor-league contract with the Red Sox on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Perez made the Giants' Opening Day roster out of spring training last year, but he tore his right rotator cuff in early April and underwent season-ending surgery. The veteran catcher is a career .207/.298/.358 hitter in 1,769 plate appearances at the major-league level and turns 35 years old later this month.

  Perez underwent season-ending surgery Wednesday to repair his right rotator cuff, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. Perez suffered a severe strain of his right rotator cuff in just his second week with the Giants after starting behind the plate in five of their first seven games. He'll be a free agent this winter. Joey Bart now has another opportunity to establish himself as the immediate and long-term answer at catcher in San Francisco, though Rule 5 pick Blake Sabol has also been a factor in the early going. Gary Sanchez is currently getting built up at Triple-A Sacramento after recently joining the organization on a minor-league deal.

• Giants' Roberto Perez: Lands on 60-day injured list

  Perez was placed on the 60-day injured list Saturday with a right rotator cuff strain, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. Perez exited Friday's game against Kansas City with the injury and will now be sidelined for at least the next two months. The 34-year-old was operating as San Francisco's primary backstop, but Blake Sabol and a newly-promoted Austin Wynns will now handle the catching duties until Joey Bart (back) returns from the injured list.

• Giants' Roberto Perez: Diagnosed with shoulder strain

  Perez left Friday's game against Kansas City with a right shoulder strain, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. While the severity of Perez's injury and how long he might be sidelined remain unknown, it seems as though the backstop avoided what could have been a much worse fate. Blake Sabol will assume primary catching duties while Perez and Joey Bart (back) work their way back from injuries.
