Machado is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. Machado will sit for the regular-season finale after going 1-for-10 with one RBI across the first two games of the series against Arizona. Unless he comes in to pinch hit, Machado will end the regular season having slashed .275/.325/.472 with 11 stolen bases, 29 home runs and 105 RBI across 643 plate appearances. Tyler Wade will start at third base Sunday and bat eighth.

Machado went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the White Sox. Machado's steal was his 10th of the year, the first time he's reached that mark since he swiped 12 bags in 2021. The third baseman has put together a strong September, going 21-for-66 (.318) with six home runs, 21 RBI, eight runs scored and two steals over 16 games. For the year, he's slashing .279/.328/.484 with 29 homers, 104 RBI and 75 runs scored over 145 contests, numbers mostly in line with his production from last season.

It's Machado's second multi-homer performance in 11 games -- the third baseman is 17-for-45 with eight multi-hit games, six home runs and 18 RBI in that stretch. Machado boasts an .814 OPS in 609 plate appearances for the season.

Machado went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the Astros. After getting shut out by Hunter Brown for five innings, Machado finally got the Padres on the board with a two-run homer to level the game in the sixth. He now has four homers, seven multi-hit performances and 16 RBI over his last 10 games. Machado started off slow this year with six homers and 33 RBI in the first 70 games, and over his last 73 games he's turned things around with 21 homers and 69 RBI while hitting for a .305 average.

Machado went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's win over the Mariners. Machado's first hit of the night was a two-run blast to center in the sixth, which put him alone atop the Padres' all-time leaderboard. Machado wasn't done yet, as he plated two more runs in the seventh on a base hit with the bases loaded. The 32-year-old has at least a base hit in 10 of his last 12 games and has racked up 15 RBI over that span. For the year, he's now slashing .276/.329/.472 with 26 homers, 94 RBI, 70 runs, nine steals and a 42:106 BB:K in 578 plate appearances.
