Martinez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds. Martinez started the past two games after returning from the paternity list, and he'll receive a day off after going 2-for-8 with a double, three RBI and three strikeouts. Jesse Winker will shift to designated hitter while Harrison Bader picks up a start in the outfield.

The Mets activated Martinez from the paternity list Thursday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Martinez missed the series against the Red Sox while tending to more important matters but will be back for his club's weekend series versus the Reds. DJ Stewart was optioned in a corresponding move.

The Mets placed Martinez on the paternity list Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Martinez will be allowed to spend up to three days away from the Mets as he spends time with his expanding family. To fill his spot on the active roster, DJ Stewart was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-1 win over the White Sox. The veteran slugger took Jonathan Cannon deep in the third inning, Martinez's 16th homer of the year and fourth in his last 10 games. He's slashing .256/.275/.590 over that 10-game stretch with a 1:17 BB:K, numbers that reflect his 2024 struggles, but the 37-year-old is still within striking distance of his ninth career 20-homer campaign.

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's loss to the Padres. Martinez went deep off Martin Perez in the fourth for the first run of the game. Three of his last four hits over the last six games have left the yard. Martinez now has 61 RBI in his last 89 games, which is third in the National League over that span behind Kyle Schwarber and Shohei Ohtani. For the year, Martinez is slashing .251/.334/.440 with 15 homers, 62 RBI, 39 runs and a 41:118 BB:K in 407 plate appearances.
