  • Adam said Friday that an MRI on his right shoulder revealed no major structural damage, and he's hopeful to return from the 15-day injured list in early-to-mid August, MLB.com reports. While Adam looks to have avoided a significant injury, the righty reliever will need more than the minimum 15 days to recover from the shoulder strain that forced him to the shelf last week and won't be ready to rejoin the San Diego bullpen coming out of the All-Star break. A 2025 All-Star selection, Adam's numbers have taken a slight step back in 2026, but he's still proven to be a reliable setup man in front of closer Mason Miller. The 34-year-old posted a 2.51 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB while notching two wins, two saves and 17 holds over 32.1 innings in his 36 appearances before landing on the injured list.

  • The Padres placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Tuesday, with a right shoulder strain. In a corresponding move, the Padres reinstated German Marquez (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Adam will be eligible to return after the All-Star break if he's recovered by then. The reliever had a 0.90 ERA heading into June, but he had a 5.11 ERA across his 12.1 innings pitched during that month.

The Padres reinstated Adam (quadriceps) from the injured list Friday. Adam began the season on a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso while finishing up his recovery from offseason quad surgery. He made four appearances in the minors, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out one batter across five shutout innings. The 34-year-old righty has turned in a sub-2.00 ERA in each of the past two seasons but will work mostly in a setup role in front of closer Mason Miller. Jeremiah Estrada (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Adam (quadriceps) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in a rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, allowing one hit without a walk or a strikeout. Saturday marked Adam's first outing in what will likely be a relatively short rehab stint. The veteran reliever retired the side in order in the fourth inning and returned for the fifth, giving up a single and then inducing a flyout prior to being pulled. Adam said Saturday that he'd like to be activated off the IL when first eligible April 6, per Matt Levine of SI.com. He's posted a sub-2.00 ERA in three of the past four regular seasons, so Adam should take on a high-leverage role for San Diego not long after he's back with the big-league club's bullpen.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Will start season on IL
    By RotoWire

Padres manager Craig Stammen said Monday that Adam (quadriceps) will begin the season on the injured list, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Coming back from surgery last September to repair a ruptured left quadriceps tendon, Adam has retired all six batters he's faced this spring. However, Stammen said Monday that the club has "got to be smart" with Adam, who should make his season debut "sometime in April, most likely." Once deemed ready, Adam is slated to fill a setup role in front of closer Mason Miller.
