The Mariners sent Milone outright to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday. The 36-year-old lefty was DFA'd last week to make room for the arrival of Isaiah Campbell, and the veteran will remain in the Mariners' organization after clearing waivers. Milone was doing well in Seattle with a 2.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through nine innings. However, it's uncertain if he'll appear in the big leagues again this season now that he doesn't hold a spot on the 40-man roster.

Milone has fared pretty well in a couple of spot starts this year, posting a 2.00 ERA across nine innings, but he'll lose his place on the Mariners' roster to make way for the arrival of relief prospect Isaiah Campbell.

Milone (0-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks without recording a strikeout in 4.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Giants. Milone navigated a lot of traffic fairly well, but the Mariners' offense put up just seven hits in the 2-0 loss. The southpaw threw 81 pitches (49 strikes) in the start. Milone was filling in for Bryce Miller (finger) in the rotation. If Miller remains out after the All-Star break, Milone could draw another start.

Darren McCaughan was optioned to Tacoma to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Milone ahead of the veteran lefty's second start of the season with the big club Wednesday versus the Giants. Milone will be joining the Mariners for the second time this season, as he previously made a spot start April 14 versus the Rockies before being designated for assignment shortly thereafter. He cleared waivers and has remained in the organization as a depth arm at Tacoma, where he's compiled a 4.47 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB over 50.1 innings. The veteran southpaw will step in as the Mariners' temporary No. 5 starter after Bryce Miller (finger) recently joined Marco Gonzales (forearm) on the injured list, but whether Milone sticks around beyond Wednesday will likely hinge on how he fares versus the Giants.
